Do any of you older grogs (older = 30+) use twitter? My work unit is thinking of using it because of its apparent popularity, but I don't understand the technology and I certainly don't understand the marketing / personal appeal.
I had a twitter account but after it was hacked a second time I closed it. Apparently it's a quite common occurrence though i'm not sure what for.

i dont have my own account - im in two minds:
im too old to understand it
or i just dont understand it
not the tech, just 'the point'
I have one, but I have never posted anything, nor do I plan to. I use it to follow other web sites. So instead of having to go and see if a site has anything new, I only have to go and look if they send a tweet. Of course, if the site has a Twitter account but doesn't use it, then it does no good.
I follow Matrix Games, NASA Planet Quest, SpaceSector, David Weber, my US Rep, and Grogheads.
You can think of it as making your own information feed.
I run a couple of accounts for my employer but I don't have one myself. I find most items.on Twitter to be very dry and totally uninteresting.
I've got one. Follow entertaining/amusing people, and share often belligerent rants with the woebegone souls who follow me. Works for me. ;D
I had one where I followed my favorite comedians, but it got overwhelming after a time and a chore to keep up with. Two times a month at least I'd get some twitter person with a super-hot chick avatar trying to spam me with porn links or other useless crap, or some random person, so I finally gave up on it. I still have my handle, I just haven't looked at the account in probably two years.
Been thinking about going back again and culling my list to only a few certain people, especially Patton Oswalt and Opie & Anthony, and a few others.
Edit: Well, I went ahead and installed Twitter on this new phone of mine just to see. The two followers I had are still following me...LOL.
Thanks for the feedback. I guess I am a little stumped about the following and posting thing. Perhaps I will youtube how to use twitter.
I have one, only to follow the Howard Stern Show and associated personalities.
