So its about that time of year when a portly gentleman with a beard comes down the chimney bearing gifts (not LB), and i promised myself a new title - ive whittled the list down to Arma III or X-Rebirth - ive read many times Mikeck's marketing campaign for Rebirth and am almost sold, almost - i have no space flight games and there must be a reason for that but the 'interactive world' feel for the game is what appeals to me. On the other hand Arma III and particularly Chelco's vignettes he always posts always seem to grab me............ the opinion of you guys on here far outweighs that of the unwashed masses out there and review sites - how do you feel about either?
That is a really tough decision to make. ARMA III is a much more polished game so far and as a result a generally better experience. If you liked the prior titles in the series, you will love this one because the mechanics are so much better and it "feels" right finally. The problem is, it's pretty much just a sandbox right now, so if you are relying in others for content, ie. missions, eventually you may run dry on material that you like. Still, they are working on completing the campaign and part 2 is scheduled for release in late January.
XRebirth, on the other hand, offers you a universe filled with moving parts. For the first time in a space sim, the world truly feels alive, and it can be simply epic to behold. Still, this game remains a work in progress and needs a good deal of patching before it gets into the state it should have been at release. There are bugs, but they are steadily being worked out and if you know egosoft, then you know this game will be supported and improved.
So, I know the above probably only made your decision harder. You really just need to ask yourself how you want to spend your time...if you want to run around the woods and shoot stuff, go with arma. If you want to fly around in space and make pew pew pew noises, go with rebirth. Personally, I'd want to do both, so I'd suck it up and buy both...it's the inevitable result anyway.
