B17: GROG WAGON (B-17 Community AAR)
November 1942Beginning a career with B-17 Queen of the skies and the Grogs have been assigned to the Grog Wagon. It is time to assemble the crew and see if we can last all of our 25 mission career. Below are the available crew positions so let me know if you would like to be apart of the crew and which position you would like to take.
As we progress through the campaign I will update the nose of the A/C to reflect our accomplishments (starting in another post).
Pilot: Capt. PanzersEast
Co Pilot: Lieut. Jason Pratt
Bombardier: Lieut. Banzai_Cat
Navigator: Lieut. Windigo
Engineer: Mst. Sgt. Staggerwing
Radio Operator: Sgt. mirth
Ball Turret: Sgt. Arctic Blast
Port Waist Gunner: Sgt. bob48
Starboard Waist Gunner: Sgt. undercovergeek
Tail Gunner: Sgt. Barthheart
Once we fill most of the positions we will be off to our first mission.

My (late) Grand-uncle John Reed said he was the youngest B-17 pilot in the war (lied about his age when taking the pilot's test), flying "Slightly Dangerous" on... one and a half tours? Something like that.
I'd be glad to be listed as the co-pilot, but I have no idea what's expected for the campaign. :) (Do we discuss things for decisions during the turn, etc.)
My grandfather was a tailguuner in a Lancaster at the end of the war so I could take that spot.
And my wife's uncle was a navigator in a pathfinder Lancaster so that could work too.
I like to tell people where to go...Navigator please
I am merely suggesting that Biggs could be the engineer... or W8aminute
BTW how the hell could a navigator rank above an engineer????
I'll go as a waist gunner - either side will do.

May try a couple of things, initially I will just run the mission then maybe come up with a couple of ways to be more interactive.

I plan to run a Lancaster Campaign Next.....

It'll be cool.... strap me up and drive me home.... I have 2 ipa left from event and a bottle of johnnie walker blue
Yeah, well take it easy, poor old sod.
I'll be the crazy psychopath who will blast away at Me109's in the ball turret.
I'll be the bombadier!
By the way, great idea! Since we talked about this briefly in the other thread, I was thinking of pulling out my copy and giving it a shot. Didn't even think of this, honestly.
I'll gladly crew whatever position is open. Engineer, maybe?
Radio Operator, please.
Crew is assembled, time to go to briefing room and get mission orders.

No worries.... my camel-shit cigarettes will cover up the smell
Too bad Ghosty isn't here; he'd copy-paste my face into that photo. With a chainsaw. (I mean, a co-pilot has to be able to do something useful until unless the pilot gets shot by someone.)
I hope you're good at feathering props, JP, because that's about all a co-pilot does in this game, IIRC. ;)
We'll probably get at least two Me-109s at 12-level tearing the piss out of the nose section/cockpit. Or getting the dreaded "walking hit" result.
whatever you do.... keep the heat/electricity on... I get pissy when cold

Keep your cabbage to yourselves. I've equipped the turret with my own refreshments.

This is an awesome idea! I know I'm late to the party but can I be one of the Focke Wulfs that go after your B-17? ;D
don't think the b17 was pressurized so you better drink'em early

I think we need a radio operator.... please play more classical - less of that ballroom crap
Nope, Mirth called that radio operator gig.
W8 can be Baron Graf und Verve Helmut von Finkelschtein. I bet he piloted one of those Me-109s that got winged by you, Windy. So now...so now...so now BGuVHvF has this awesome eye patch he has to wear to cover the hideous eye wound he got. As he blazed by our beautiful B-17 bomber, he saw the name and the two red dice on the side, and swore eternal vengeance "VOULD BE MINEN!"
So, now, he's totally on a mission to have revenge, or something.
^Yes! I so want to be the guy with the eyepatch.
This one is my favorite:

Banzai said he'd be running the Lancaster campaign NEXT! :P
If there is enough interest maybe we could crew more than one plane and see how each plane does. I'd be willing to join a crew since I'm late the party as well.
Good Hunting.

I know it's been 120+ days since this was updated, but wanted to bring this thread to everyone's attention:

PE inspired me to try this now that I have a copy of B-29 Superfortress in my hands. I hope PE will continue the adventures of this B-17. I also figured anyone here that was interested in having their name on a B-17 might not mind a B-29, flying high over shark-infested waters. :)
Count me in, you suicidal feline. :)
MUWAHAHAHAHA
Err, I mean, Great!
Head over there and post and tell me what position you want out of what's left. Also if you have a name suggestion for it, let me know.
PE: will your GrogWagon adventures continue by chance?

Yep, I will start them back up. I thought that we were close to the new release at the time, however it is a ways off. I will begin posting back soon. Also, I have a couple ideas as we get into the holidays, as well as the 2nd Annual Grogheads Boxing Tournament.

Sweet! IIRC, I won that first one. 8)
