Not sure what is going on here. Shogun 2 looked amazing before the FOTS patch and seemed fine the first time I loaded my campaign immediately after the patch. Then today when I loaded my campaign the graphics are at the lowest possible detail even though all settings are ultra. Frankly it looks like crap now...both campaign map and tactical maps. I think the original Shogun looked better! Anyone else experiencing problems? I am running a quad core phenom with 1 GB 560Ti card, WinXP 32 bit.
Check the game's gfx.log.txt file.
You can find it in Users/<Your Name>/AppData/Roaming/The Creative Assembly/Shogun2/Logs/
It'll tell you what settings the game has decided to lower on you. It's a really irritating "feature" of Shogun 2. The game will automatically lower graphics settings on you if it thinks you're using too much memory. Problem is, it does a really poor job of analyzing your system and lowers setting when it shouldn't.
It seems the problem might have been a small 25MB patch that Steam applied earlier today, which might have been corrupted. I had Steam verify my cache files and now all is good again.
There are also reported problems with ATI cards. But if everything is good again with it then you should be fine.
EDIT: Just tried to start my copy and it crashed to desktop twice. Verifying my own cache now... >:(
Crap! Graphics are borked again. Verifying cache didn't do anything this time so deleted preferences script and verifying files again.
Do you have an ATI card?
No, nVidia card. Did you get FOTS working again Gus?
EDIT: Still not working right. Guess I will play some World of Tanks instead. I am really starting to hate Steam! >:(
^Yes I got it working again by loading another save. All the downloading appears to have broken what was my most recent one. Things seem fine now. Had my first naval melee and although I was totally outclassed and got beat bad, it was still great fun. Forced me to upgrade my navy too which should lead to some interesting run ins with the Obama clan.
Loaded my campaign last night and was a bit shocked to find that graphics had fixed themselves. Hope it lasts this time.
I'm about to fire it up as well. Didn't have any surprises after yesterday morning so fingers crossed still.
