And now I've reached that age I try to game all the best ways that I can! I'm a little burnt on Warlock. My typical Civ partners are otherwise occupied, so, I may pull out Medieval 2 Total War or some CK2. Maybe work somemore on my Avernum Escape From the Pit.
...and metaldog is buying the stairway...to Friday.
Probably more Rome II for me. Maybe I'll try to get into Horizon. Just don't see it happening.
I'll be exploring the delights of 'Heroes of the Blitzkrieg'- Nice Led Zep lead-in MD!
American Civil War 2 by Matrix. Started a new campaign after the last update. Playing as the North, it's now late December, 1861. Game starts in April of that year. The war is hot along the Indiana and Illinois borders with Kentucky (who joined the South) and all across Missouri. Had the obligatory loss at first Manassas but eked out a stalemate in the second. Can't wait for 1862 so I can start building corps for all those divisions.
Continue, my Rome 2 Campaign. And lots of FSX!
Rome 2 Iceni campaign and maybe, maybe, some CKII.
Starting day 2 at Game ON!
Played Panzer and Sails of Glory yesterday.
Today the LnL and World at War tourneys start. Going to get an early morning game of Desert Heat in.
Nothing like 16 hours of board wargaming for 3 days! :)
Most of my free time will be spent with Breaking the Chains and/or Steel Wolves this weekend. Read the rules for BtC earlier this week, they don't sound overly complicated. Have a couple of minor complaints, and I haven't even played the game yet. Hoping it will eventually provide some inspiration for some Command scenarios. I also want to give Steel Wolves another shot, after having the vassal module mentioned as a way of keeping track of all the chits during combat.
Any PC gaming I do will probably be a mix of EUIV, Distant Worlds, and Command. Most of my PC time will be spent working on the 3 Command scenarios and the EUIV - Rome mod that I have been outlining/research the last few weeks. Two of the Command scenarios are based off of Red Storm Rising, and the third is a limited nuclear exchange between the US and Russia, based on the novel Arc Light.

Sounds like fun, Rayfer! Having Kentucky join the South should make things much more interesting. I really gotta get back into my 1861 campaign. But I've been so hooked on
WOFF that I might have trouble making time for AACW2.
With the rugby on, I doubt I'll get any gaming...if so, I'll simply be continuing my AAR for World at War:Blood and Bridges
I really do think that is all.
I really enjoyed the first campaign chapter in ArmA III but can't get past the first mission in the second chapter...I keep getting spotted.

^I started some CM:BN to try and get into it - and for the love of god...I get soooooooo bored setting up all my pixel troops that by the time I've done that, I am bored. Worse, if I do carry on, I end up getting slaughtered.
Maybe that's why I can't get into it...the time taken to move all my units only to have them slaughtered!
I guess I'll be playing ABCD, EFGH, IJKL, MNOP, QRST, UVW, and some XYZ. ;D
I've been dazed and confused for so long it's not true.
Haven't played a PC game in almost a week. If I do, it will be Flaming Cliffs 3 and my constant single-player companion Wings Over Flanders Fields.
Gonna have the Mage Knight Board Game and Sentinels of the Multiverse out on the table this weekend in between committing some heavy liver damage. Lazah Eyes PEW PEW!
Rome 2 as Athens just about to eliminate Epirus. And CMBN-- I got the Americans on the ropes in the 2nd battle of the Panzer March campaign, a bloody night fight for sure.
Recently bought all the expansions for CKII to see if it would rekindle my interest. It has. Will be continuing my campaign as Duke of Apulia at the bottom of the Italian boot.
Also OOTP14 -- enjoying my first "Stats Only" league. Went whole hog with HS and College feeders, MLB and all the international leagues in a big ol' baseball universe. Man I love this game.
Well, for me, the song remains the same: PS2, RoF, new and old IL2 (BoS, '46), maybe some CMBN - that's same battle as last week - maybe it's becoming the Battle of Evermore (I'll stop now)

Kentucky has become the springboard (supply source) for the South to launch cavalry raids into Indiana, Illinois and Ohio. Putting out those fires has made it tough to mount any sort of serious effort to invade the South. 1862 will be an interesting year. The AI is good in this game. At least in my opinion it is.

Things seem a little easier in Sicily (asn an American anyway): scout, spot some enemies, fire the artillery, fire smoke, bing up the MGs, open up with MGs, bring up the infantry, assault.
Sometimes the time runs out, but I've won some small battles with only 3 killed.

I will after I create it. Not sure what order I'm going to make them in yet. The arc light one can be done mostly with existing imports, but I was planning on doing the two RSR based scenarios first.

Maybe a scenario based on the "bastion" wherr a CArrier group and American subs have a certain amount of time to locate Russian boomers before those boomers launch their SLBMs that American cities . If a few do get launched you have some Ticonderoga's nearby with SM-3s to perhaps try to intercept. I don't know something like that.
Definitely looking forward to launching some ICBMs and taking out some airfields and such

The Norse starts are really fun as well if you have the Old Gods. My favorite is the Chief of Dublin. You start with the great heathen army and are tasked with getting revenge on one of the Saxon lords who killed your father, Rragnar Lothbrok. The great heathen army doesn't generate reinforcements, but it served as the core of my army during my conquest of British Isles. Also used it for raiding the French, Spanish, and Italian coast lines, since it was strong enough to take on most of the armies the smaller feudal lords could muster.

That's a good idea. I'll add it to the list. That might not be a bad idea for a 2015+ scenario, after the SM-6 missiles come into service.
The first Arc Light scenario was going to be the initial exchange of nukes. I want to try and use the event editor to add events that will simulate things like US political indecisiveness, etc that might delay the US response. Not sure if its possible to do that at the moment. My plan is for the Russian's to get the first strike and then have to defend against the US counter attack. So no nukes after the first launch. The US has to use its missiles, and get its bombers airborne before the Russian strike, and then have to carry on a global counter force strike using limited resources and alternate basing facilities for its bombers.
Hopefully some more Rome II this weekend, and I'll for sure be continuing my Klingon campaign in Birth of the Federation.

Instead I'm inspired to create a fictional clash and create a dynamic campaign using arma 3 and cmano to play out the game - using the results of battle 1 to influence 2 and so on
As i just finished Darkstar one, i'll be focusing on my old desktop from 1995. This means that i'll play the following games in the next weeks: Fields of glory, Imperium Galactica and War of the Worlds.
Hopefully some Rome II this weekend and perhaps some ARMA III

"Arc light" is a great book. Kushan, this sounds like an awesome scenario. I really want to simulate a battle where I get to exchange intercontinental ballistic missiles with the Soviet Union.... go back-and-forth and then try to fight a conventional war with what's left over. Would love to see airbases and naval bases. I can't wait for the scenario and I really hope you figure out a way to get it done
Board gaming tomorrow. I'll be taking Conquest of Planet Earth, Zombicide and probably one or two others over to a friend's place.
I might jump back into Tomb Raider, which I'm pretty sure I'm nearing the end of. And perhaps something else.
Sippin' scotch and groovin' on Skyrim. I'm almost done with the Dawnguard DLC, after which I plan to pick up and finish the remainder of the main quest.

I'm increasingly of the mind that CKII is P'dox's masterpiece. From top to bottom, it's an extraordinary game -- & with the expansions, the possibilities for different styles if play seems limitless.
I'm trying to finish up my massive Dominions 4 single player game. I just got a dire portent though stating that Atlantis is on the verge of some sort of spell that will send all other pretenders to be locked up unless someone captures their throne of ascendancy. I'm too wrapped up in a bitter war to the death with those scum Niefelheim to be concerned about being locked up somewhere though.

I agree. I have about ~150 hours of EUIV, and I think CK2 is the better game. I like most of systems in EUIV, but there is a lot more variety in the game play in CK2. One or two bad rulers in CK2, and your realm will can apart. If the same thing happens in EUIV, all you do is fall a little behind in tech and national ideas. if you had a weak ruler in EUIV, I'd really like for it to give a substantial increase to rebellions etc. One would think Scotland or Ireland would rise in rebellion if England had a few bad rulers.
I agree. I really have to be in the mood for CK2 but whether I am or not, I see that it is one of the most complex, polished and fun games ever made. It is one of those rare games where you actually create a story as you play
So far I've ended up spending most of my gaming time this weekend with Sniper Elite 2 on PC and GTAV on the 360. The bullet cam never gets old in SE and GTA really is a crowning achievement for consoles.
Heh. I'm actually installing GTAIV on Steam right now. I picked it up over Xmas but haven't played it yet.
In between, since I finished Skyrim and I'm just not digging the beginning of the Dragonborn DLC, I've been playing a bit of Oblivion. I fired up Metro2033 for a bit, but it didn't hook me.
I believe I'm going to fire up CK2 for a while right now.
Played some eu4 as Austria to finalise my learning game..... having found the God of paradox let's plays in a guy called arumba who knows everything about ckii and eu I'm going to start proper as Austria and keep my hands on the hre this time
Some more di Parma ckii
Sometimes I get an urge for Rome ckii

I enjoyed GTAIV, but GTAV is just in a different league. There are so many little details that just bring the world to life like nothing I have ever experienced in a video game. I actually spent about an hour just in a strip club getting a lap dance. It was so authentic that Amy, who was in the room reading a book, started watching and was getting pissed off. lol.
As to GTAIV, though, there are some really cool mods too. My favorite was one that turns it into a police simulator. Very cool,
On another note, the Metro games never grabbed me either. After the STALKER series, Metro just felt too linear.
That sounds pretty awesome. The only GTA I've really played is Vice City, and that was years and years ago. If IV can grab me I'll have to look at getting V.
Man, CK2 is such a crazy game. I'm playing as a duke of Normandy. I have slowly been acquiring a few neighboring territories, I have all my daughters married off to kings of other countries, and generally things are going pretty well.
And then all of a sudden BAM! I'm not sure what happened by France completely fragmented into pieces, everyone is fighting with everyone else, and I have a claim to the kindgom of France I can press. How did that happen? I had to save it and turn it off. I had way too much scotch to make such big decisions last night!

Did you start as William the Conqueror or one of the other start dates? France has a tendency to fragment and have a civil war ever 15-20 years in CK2. Never been able to figure out why, either everyone wants to be king of France, or all the major dukes are part of the same family and get a claim on the throne.
I once declared war on France as England in EUIV after having consumed too much whiskey. Did not end well for the English.

Yeah, that sounds right. I'm William the Bastard, but the game started with me doing the Norman Invasion, which I failed because it didn't occur to me to hire a bunch of mercenaries.
Just goes to show how what you think you are going to do and what you actually do are sometimes two totally different things, I said my Civ MP partners were busy this weekend. Turns out, all I have played is Civ IV MP.
And yet there seems to have been some sort of communication breakdown - so few people following your lead, sorry led, in this thread.
I didn't play a damn thing over the weekend. Just lazed about watching YouTube vidoes of other people playing games (mostly tabletops). Is that not weird?
I sorted in all the stuff in the Mage Knight Boardgame expansion in with the vanilla game and put all the tokens in a plastic organizer. But that's as close as I came to gaming. ??? I may start a new game later tonight.
Tried the Medieval 2:Total War demo on steam this weekend.
Wanted to like this one but just couldn't get into it very much.
As much as I would like to try and play some new and different PC games outside of the WW2 era,I just can't seem to find anything that grabs my interest and holds it the way 20th century warfare does.
Also gave War Thunder a go but not much of an aviation guy. Mainly gave this a whirl to get used to the mechanics of the game when they go to War Thunder Ground forces.
Hopefully the tank combat will be ready for the general public soon.
I've pretty much had it with World of Tanks and would like to find something to replace the loathing I get every time I jump into most of the matches in that game.
Not sure if WTGF will be better than WoT but I'm keeping my fingers crossed in hopes that it is.

Not weird - I have to say until ive made enough notes and set out on my own ill watch lets play - and for the first few days end up watching someone else play instead of me - but then in most Grand strategy games id rather get a handle on the mechanics from a pro than just dive in - so this week has been a lot of youtube for EUIV and CMANO

I think it might be a better game, but youll still get a team full of tools doing all the wrong things at all the wrong times and in reply to your messages about working as a team youll probably still get 100 offers of teenage morons wanting to do sexy things to your mum
This weekend i played retro:
- Master of Orion II (1996) as the Klackons...at war with the Trilarians...forgot to upgrade my ships!
- Civil war Generals II (1997)....reporting heavy losses while attacking Harper's Ferry....have to regroup and hope for the night to come (2 days battle)...need to limit the losses.
- Imperium Galactica (1997)...at war with the Garthogs....i thought i had it good until i met one of their fleets: 3 battleships and lots of fighters...forgot how difficult this game can be! A truely excellent game but without random map.
and as I wind down this weekend
there stands a game that we all know o o o oh
with just one more turn left to go
before we have to get our gold
Nicely done, W8 :)
I've been dazed and confused for so long its not true,

4 days of board wargaming at Game ON! Great fun and exhausting all at the same time.

Desert Heat
World at War - Death of the 1st Panzer
GMT's Panzer
WotC's Dungeon Command
Sails of Glory

And what happened? Things suddenly went well: all male relatives had cleared out of the manloft and all female relatives took YungMeng and went two floors down to watch the Olympics!
For almost 4 glorious hours there was nothing but gaming so I:
1)Got into Where Eagles Dare (training scenario: Guards Armoured tries to overrun KG Chill. I suddenly learn it is very hard to defend against most of an Armoured Division: just getting anybody back from the outpost line looks nearly impossible. Command control is already looking iffy. Hoping the artillery will save the day.
2) Played some CMFI: Imaginary TF Smith collides with the Reincarnated HG Undead Airborne Panzer Division somewhere in Sicily. Losses are bizarrely equal.

Thats about how my weekend turned out. I did a little work with Command on Saturday, but that was it. Going to have to rethink my Arc Light scenario, I loaded just the US and Russia missile fields, and when fired had a unit count of 1,200+. If I had added other bases, bombers, and ships, the unit count would make the scenario unplayable. Started work on my next RSR scenario(s). On request from Baloogan I'm going to release the 1980's soviet northern fleet units I've been compiling as stand alone imports, similar to what I've done with the US CVSG's.
With all the talk about CK2, I started re-watching season 1 of Vikings. Not a bad show considering what channel its on. Caught up on some YouTube lets plays as well.

I didn't play a damn thing over the weekend. Just lazed about watching YouTube vidoes of other people playing games (mostly tabletops). Is that not weird?
Thats about how my weekend turned out. I did a little work with Command on Saturday, but that was it. I would like to see more RSR/80s Hypo-War scenarios in that, when I eventually revisit. We'll have to encourage Baloogan to keep prodding you. :P

Odd. I just went and purchased the latest CK2 DLCs today on a whim. I haven't played in awhile but got a sensation that it may start taking up some of my time in the near future. Despite not having even loading into a PC game in at least a week. I still haven't. ???
