This one's really looking/sound good so far. Along with
Age of Wonders 3 (and depending on the release date,
Sovereignty: Crown of Kings), 2014 could be overflowing with fantasy-strategy goodness. :)
I was especially happy to read this part:
Quote
csebal: What do you consider to be the most important and least important game mechanics in the fantasy 4X genre?
I think that the AI is probably the most important mechanic in a 4X game. A really great game can be completely ruined by a bad AI simply because most of the time these games are played against the computer. 4X games are one area where single player gaming is alive and well. If the AI can't offer players a challenge then they don't get that sense of having really conquered the universe. As that's kind of the point of these games, a bad AI can really mess things up.
Not that this by any means guarantees a good AI, of course. But it's heartening that they appear to give it such a high priority.
I only have one question concerning this game. When will it be released!? I want it now!
You and me both, pal. 8)
Last I heard, they were angling for a summer release. I *think* they're in late alpha/early beta at the moment, but don't quote me on that.
Thanks for posting the link to that interview, Martok. I am also anxiously awaiting the release of Worlds of Magic.
We've all been wanting an up-to-date version of MoM for a long time.
This looks very intriguing! Lots of promising titles this year, for sure.
Gah! I keep forgetting to post this. Wasteland put up some alpha gameplay footage, with developer commentary:
WoM is looking really good. My only issue would be that the hero icons on the main map area look a little weird because they are so huge.
