With the college basketball tournament underway, I always get the itch to fire up a good college text simulation...just saw that Draft Day Sports: College Basketball 3 released this past week and was wondering if anyone was playing it. In the past I played the old versions, but was frustrated enough to pass on the latest versions. Few main reasons as to why.
* Lack of stability - always seemed to have bugs and the type of bugs you might not find until your multiple seasons into your career....hate career sims where your hesitant to proceed because of a future crash and stopping point.
* Screen Layout/Issues - always seems like the game has issues with different resolutions and screen objects sometimes going crazy
* Lack of developer commitment - although initially the developer seems on top of things in the initial release days, it seems with every game they publish, the developer disappears for long periods of time without any communication or updates....only to pop up again later announcing some new version.
Although I haven't played it in awhile, the college basketball game I enjoyed the most was FastBreak College Basketball by Greydog Software.

When I use to play it, never ran into any major issues and the developer was constantly updating it....although it does seem a little less involved nowadays. Maybe I'll just fire up this one again:)
Just curious to hear the latest from people who play these games.
If it's a sports management game you know I'll own it.
I've been playing the Beta version for the last couple of days. It's been running pretty good. The interface is a little better than the last but it will still feel familiar. The recruiting engine in this game is probably one of my favorites. I like it better than Greydog's but that being said, I really like Greydog's College Football Game...if only they'd update it.
The stats seem inline with real life. So far I'm enjoying it. iT has some minor bugs but Gary (Developer) seems to be on top of them.
I'm loading the full version of DDS:CB3 right now so I'll report back later.
Thanks for the update and look forward to further impressions. Just really hesitant to buy because I know the developer will disappear again as usual. I took a look at the forum of the last pro version released and seems like people are asking the same usual questions as to when issues will be fixed with that game.
Seems like a consistent behavior.....release a product, provide some initial support and then disappear until next years version.
That's true. I believe he is a single man operation. I wish he'd focus on one or two things instead of a whole catalog of games because he really does put out a nice product.
One thing I forgot to mention is there's an option to use a Promotion/Relegation system for your game. Ever since I discovered English soccer I've always thought that type of system would be perfect for college sports. I'm not going to try it right away but if the game starts to feel stale that will be a great tool to freshen it up again.
Yep, I understand he is a one man show, but if he is capable of putting out a product for money, he should be capable of providing support and communication as well:)
As an example.....he hasn't posted a single item in the pro version game forum since November 17th, 2013.....that is roughly when he announced the new college basketball game. That is nearly five months ago and people are saying issues still exist....exactly the same pattern of every other game he has released. I am not saying a developer has to post daily and answer every question, but this is an extreme in the opposite direction.
Ok, I'll stop dwelling on it:) Just disappoints me when somebody comes out with a decent start to a product but doesn't really stick with it much.....

I agree with you 100%. I guess I just like his version of the college game the best so I'm willing to support it and take the chance that he'll support it as well...even if history doesn't necessarily suggest that.
So far the game is running really smooth. I added the real NCAA mod and the real Courts mod so the game is visually appealing and immersive. My problem is I don't know squat about basketball so, much like FM, I have to put in a lot of trial and error time before I get any results from my team.

Keep me posted...maybe I will take one more chance on his product....I am just hoping no game stopping bugs like 10 years into your career....it seems developers don't test enough seasons to know how it behaves when you invested a lot of time into it.
I did see they had a demo so grabbed that....so far, didn't notice anything majorly different from the previous versions...at least things I really care about. I did have UI issue already after trying to save the game, the save bar got stuck on the screen even though it completed the save.

The only real problems I had were in the beta build and that was the game stopping and a window popping up telling me someone fouled out and to remove them from the lineup. However, the player was on the other team so I had to abort that game. That bug has already been fixed in 1.0. The other was the background going completely white. It didn't effect much and eventually returned but that happened more than once. So far in the Version 1.0 everything has been smooth.

I don't usually play the actual games, I just sim them so I wouldn't likely see that issue...kind of bummed though, the demo ended right as the tournament was starting:( They should have allowed it to finish at least one season so I could see all the features that happen.
The issues I have seen in the past versions usually occurred in off season and as you played multiple seasons...that is what has me the most cautious...since demo doesn't give me the chance to do that, I'll likely have to wait and hear about some people's dynasties that aren't having issues.
Not College, but DDS Pro Basketball 4 Early Access starts tomorrow. I have owned all of them and a great series and the new UI looks great!

He has been better of late and has resolved all issues that are reported. So far he has replied to my request.

Always good around release then gone afterwards. Too many years I have seen this pattern to jump back in. He has t prove to me that he sticks with support after release but I don't expect anything better based on history.

That does look nice. Very clean. I'd be interested to see if he puts out a new college game with that interface.
For those interested, first access available and you can even download and play a portion of the season in demo mode to get a feel for it.

Although I am not personally interested, I believe today is the last day to receive a discount on purchasing the game before full release...
