Hunt for Red October was by TSR, right? I think they made A Line in the Sand, which I have here somewhere. Hunt For Red October I think had similar pieces...units in little plastic stands. A friend of mine had it a long time ago.

A Line in the Sand...... great game for large group play. We played it for an entire weekend only for it to end in a tie. One guy was so pissed he swore not to play it again for 10 years.... Another in our group is keeping time... only 2.5 years until we can bring it out again.  :2funny:

Best part of the game is sending Diplomatic messages to the other factions. My group gets right into the RP of the factions. Stealing messages from the pouch, a game mechanic, usually resulted in riotous laughter as you only got part of the exchange... usually involving a goat and someone's ancestry.

Ha...yeah we did the same thing. I remember breaking it out some 15 years after the only play I ever had with it with a large group, and re-reading the messages. I never throw that kind of stuff away because it's usually gold.

Yep, that game is a lot of fun with the right group. We also tended to REALLY get into the whole 'release a fiery speech' part of things.  ;D
