Fortunately my involvement with punch cards was limited to collecting and sorting them for Boy Scout paper drives. We used to get them by the truck load from Wright-Patterson.

God, I HATED my 6th-period Computer Programming class my freshman year of high school. Though at the semester break, the school got a bunch of IBMs in another classroom, so we moved to those, fortunately for my sanity and everyone else's.

The computers were networked, so guess how long it took for us to figure out how to crash everything?  O:-)

I also remember they had an old Apple on one of those high school AV rolling stands, plugged in to a TV set on top. I think it was an Apple II. I clearly remember seeing a guy play some adventure game on it, IN COLOR. I think it was 'Colossal Cave Adventure.' That was one of those epiphany moments when I realized being social and playing outside were for losers. ;)

We had some Atari 400s and 800s in the school in Germany, and we used the AtariWriter word processor to write out the rules to our own tabletop RPGs.
In the days before WYSIWYG we had to print them to see the layout.
I remember one of the things we did was use the The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe comics to stat out all the superheroes in D&D, and then about 6 weeks later the Marvel Universe RPG was released...  :-\

The original Marvel RPG was not that fun. My best friend at the time loved playing it but he only wanted heroes that were maxed out in all categories. Kind of defeats the purpose of having a challenge.

The advanced rules were better, but I sold both at the Gamer's Flea Market so I can't recall details offhand.

My WANG used to program me, not the other way around.  ::)  Now it's kind of in 'Sleep Mode'.

After that and a semester of BASIC my first year of college, I was done with programming and any computer-related courses. A friend of mine went on to learn FORTRAN and today is an executive VP for an IT company. He also weighs about 450 pounds, poor guy. Potato, potatoe.
