I have always like this author she did a great job on explaining what happens when you die (hint its messy) in a book called Stiff.  Her treaty on how to survive in Space in Packing for Mars is must read stuff on understanding how to make zero G toilets work.  Now she has turned her attention to the military and not about fighting but all the gear and stuff and why some poor sap is loaded down with it in Grunt.  I am just halfway in but I like how the navy provides sanitary wetnaps and the marines a piece of T shirt in their respective care/ration packages.  I think that says something about appropriation budgets right there.
