Started playing Assassins Creed Odyssey (I know a little late to the party) on Friday and am already burned out. The last AC game I played was Syndicate, and I enjoyed it. Loved the atmosphere, had interesting historical characters, and some of the investigation missions were well done, but never finished because of the repetition.  So I had heard good things about AC Odyssey and decided to give it a go.

The Good: Great graphics. Good attention to detail when it comes to the buildings, and statues. Main story line quest is slightly interesting. Some nice moments looking over the vast areas at night from a high vantage point.

The Bad : Everything else. Just repetitive go kill, or collect quests. No real immersion. Combat is pretty much button mashing/block/button mashing/ block.....  It really is just more of the same AC, with different wallpaper. The problem is that I was already burned out from playing AC Syndicate, and was hoping that this would be more refined, and less repetitive. However this is more repetitive, less immersive, less historical characters, etc. It does have a vast map, but lets face it, you will just go to different areas doing the same thing you did at the last area, over and over again.

Word is that the next AC is going to be Viking themed which is right up my alley , but at this point I just cant see myself buying it unless Ubisoft makes some big changes. As of now I think it is just going to be more of the same.

What are your thoughts?? Has anyone actually finished AC Odyssey??

I put about 75 hours into Odyssey - it's probably my favorite one, and I didn't even care for ancient Greek history much before I started playing it. Same thing for me with Origins. Both those games were totally immersive for me and ignited an interest in ancient history that I did not have before. Different strokes and all that.

Played 130 hours to finish the main story line.  Only AC game I finished.

So I can't say I didn't like it.

Might keep playing just so I can get my Wolf companion. Took the skill to get a wolf, and now I cant find any damn wolves. At the beginning of the game I was being attacked by wolves every 10 seconds, now I cant find any !!!

So far the highpoint of the game is me banging some old broad who sent me on a fetch quest to get a bear scrotum, and a deer tongue, to make some liquid Viagara for her husband.

I go all the way back with AC to the very first game in 2008. I still like the original the best because of  the Crusades and Assassins theme with more stealth. My second choice would be Unity with the Paris setting. I've always considered that one the most graphically beautiful too. I played Origins quite a bit and picked up Odyssey a few months back on a sale. They are both good games but like the OP I think I've finally become burnt-out on the concept. With both of the most recent games the formula of repeating quests for me has become very tiresome. Also I don't think that bigger is always better too as the AC series for me has lost it's original focus of assassinations and stealth being in the main for the series. I fully understand why Ubi has added naval warfare, chariot races etc. as it brings more sales for the game but it doesn't really add more enjoyment for me personally.

I'm also disappointed in the choice of Vikings for the upcoming AC as I was hoping for feudal Japan and maybe a ninja-samurai theme with a rejuvenation of more stealth gameplay.

I really liked the Egypt edition, and played it all the way through. Got maybe halfway through the Greek one and kinda lost interest.
