Who here drives an EV?

I've been monitoring the field closely and over the last few years some really nice options have hit the market. My wife's Jaguar e-pace lease came up and I found an EV that finally appealed to her. We went with the Ford Mustang Mach E GT model. Its really bad ass and I've really enjoyed driving it so far (even though I swear, its her car!). For the last 10 years she's refused to drive anything other than a Range Rover or Jag and although they are beautiful cars, they run like shit and are totally unreliable. So getting her into a Ford is a HUGE victory!

I'm a little miffed about the home charging installation as we were told it would be complimentary, but nobody mentioned at the dealership that "complimentary" does not include permit fees or costs over and above what they define as a "Standard" installation. Our electrical panel is located on the opposite side of the house from the garage, so we need about 30 extra feet of wiring from what is included with the standard install. Its not totally cost prohibitive, but its an unexpected expense.

Otherwise, I'm excited about having this vehicle. I'll still keep a larger gas car for family roadtrips, etc., but the EV is perfect for my wife who just drives locally to work 2 nights a week and for driving the kids around the neighborhood, etc.

Any tips, drawbacks, benefits, or just experiences in general that you guys would like to share?

That is a sweet ride. 

I don't own an EV but my next door neighbor does.  She has one of those 3 series BMW EV with the charging station setup in the garage.

We went plug in hybrid
Volvo XC90
We have solar panels at home so all the electrons are free but we are maxed out on the panels we can't fit any more on the roof and now with the phev we max out our solar generation with usage - last year got my first elec bill in three years for $50
The phev Volvo gets 36 miles on electricity only
Typically enough for me to commute or run all our errands
We installed a regular 14-30 NEMA outlet forgoing the charger since we don't need any of the Smart charger features
By going hybrid we took an additional 18months off the solar panel payback which means we are now paid off after 3years on those
Reason for the phev was range anxiety- We have a vacation home in the NH mountains 2 hours away.  There are much fewer charger options there and the HOA doesn't allow chargers unless you have a garage (which we don't)  cold weather kills range and we don't want to deal with finding a charger in brutal weather when we just want to get home.
The distance is such that we would always be on the edge of the range
We've enjoyed a huge boost on the elec for the hp boost and convenience of fewer gas fill-ups
Thinking of getting the hybrid Subaru Crosstrek next year to replace our 2013 crosstrek since we like the convenience and fun aspect of driving electric without the range and infrastructure problems
