There's a contest that will soon start offering a total of $4 for a new Marine Amphibious vehicle.

QuoteThe winner of the first phase, to design the new vehicle's engine, suspension, and other motive systems, will get a $1 million prize. Should a team win all three phases -- drivetrain, chassis, and the whole vehicle -- it would take home $4 million. Ultimately, if DARPA's winner proves superior to the results of a traditional Pentagon competition among major defense firms, it could become the Marine Corps' new Amphibious Combat Vehicle.

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

That's just crazy! We can't waste all that money on new weapons systems when our servicemen- and women are short on the basics they need.
I mean, you could buy probably two whole MRE's with all that money! For Shame!

Do they really expect a future invasion force to be launched over the horizon?.  Traditional landing craft would be too slow.  They should use GEV technology.
