I read somewhere that Ziff Davis had previously owned 1UP .

Yep. They sold them off to IGN, then they re-acquire it and put the bullet in it's head. Kinda weird.

The loss of Gamespy is really too bad. Dan Stapleton had done a great job turning it in to a really nice PC gaming site recently.
