Thanks for the info chaps.

My inclination is to go with the SE for now, or I may even try a bit of bombing and try the DH4. Its easy to go over-the-top (sorry, bad WW1 pun there) and buy a few 'planes while the sales are on, but I'd rather face the Hun than Mrs.B when she see's the bill.

Anyway, its not as if they dan't have quite frequent sales, so its easy to add the odd aircraft on at such times.

I'm taking note of tips on setting up the joysticks and looking for setting that I feel comfortable with. At the moment, I think my settings are too sensitive, as I'm constantly twitching about trying to stay level, but maybe to an extent, that's how they were IRL.

Not played on-line yet until I have a bit more confidence and maybe stand a chance of actually hitting something - other than the ground, that is!

I'm extremely impressed by the quality of the graphix in the game, not just the aircraft, but also the ground detail. Last night I flew over the front line and gobsmacked by the trenches, exploding shells, AA fire and the pall of smoke over the battlefield.

Excellent stuff, so it is.

Anyone fly as the Germans regularly? Taking advantage of the sale I want to get few German planes but haven't had the chance yet.

The Pfalz III flies like a dream.  Very stable gun platform, good diver, and hard to rip thw wings off when you pull up.  The only drawback is that the top wing is right at eye level so forward visibility is a bit crap.

^I was eyeing the Pfalz III. I think I am going to get that, the Gotha, and the Brandenburg seaplane, and of course the Channel Map. Wish that was on sale though :/...also looking at the Roland CIIa - which I had never heard of before this RoF sale. At 11.99 its a bit steep though.

The Felixstowe is pretty cool as well. Lots of crew positions and beaucoup build detail! It's perfect for the Channel Map.

^I want that Felixstowe as well but I am going to use it as a carrot as I learn the game. Once I am a slightly better than terrible pilot and I get the hang of the Track IR, I will get that as a reward for myself :)

Pfalz III is a very nice bird.. I think you'll be very happy with it..

Gotha is cool looking, but a major Challenge to fly. But you get sense of satisfaction when you do it succesfully!

Gusington

^I think you took me up in your Gotha as a gunner, didn't you? I can't resist the Gotha, it's too cool :)

I finished up buying the DH4. Seems a nice aircraft with good general performance, and it has a gunners position. I think I may make a better bomber pilot than fighter pilot.

The Roland is an interesting plane.  I didn't know it was such an early design.  I've been using it to shoot down AI-driven DH-2s since they are both early planes apparently.

I know I took you down in my Gotha as my gunner!  ::)

I've been flying the DH2. You can take one down by just giving it a dirty look!

It's a strange one.  I find it puzzling that anyone ever flew in something like that, much less managed to shoot down anything while flying
such a thing.

bboyer66

The DH2 was actually a pretty decent plane when it came out and really put a thumping on the Eindeckers. But with the introduction of the Albatross,  the DH2 was made obsolete over night.

Wish the campaign would start earlier in ROF, so you could actually pilot the DH2 in a time period where it was actually an effective plane

bob48

^Agreed, it would be good to have some earlier stuff.
