Xenonauts Impressions?

I noticed you can now get early access Xenonauts now on Steam. Anyone have any impressions of it?

How does it compare to the firaxis remake? I have to admit I never played the original XCom, but I did for the most part like the Firaxis remake. I think Firaxis forced the the scripted story missions a bit to much. Would really like a game with a more sandbox feel.

I tried a very early alpha version and it seemed Ok.  I am not a big xcom expert, but I wonder what it will offer in the end that the new version of xcom doesn't already have.
