The DCS summer sale is happening the 20th to 30th but there was also some more solid info in their newsletter about future releases:

I'm looking forward to the fully-modelled Sukhois although learning the Russian 'pits takes more time (for me).

What is DOF cockpit and AFM? If you buy one of these individually do you not need that other game prior, like you do with FC3?

DoF = Depth of Field
AFM = possibly Aircraft Flight Model (manual?)

DoF   Degrees of freedom , you can move your head (probably with Track IR) in 6 axis (left /right up /down + back and for)
AFM   advanced flight model (they calc the lift/force  surfaces on the plane generate depending on velocity and angle to the airstream more detailed ...more individual segments on the planes surface to sum up )

They're right - it's the "6 degrees of Freedom" 3D cockpit that allows TrackIR users to move their head in all directions around the 'pit.  There are enchanced flight models in FC3, along with some nice new Air-to-Air missile modelling additions.  One of the big changes is FC3's integration into DCS World so you can fly all those aircraft in multiplayer, of course.

And, yes, you need LOMAC to install FC3.  I had to dig out my old LOMAC disk and install it first before the installer would run.  I had hoped that it would just detect it in my drive but no.  Now I wonder if I can uninstall the old LOMAC version no that FC3 is installed....  ???

Does anyone have a link to a good TrackIR 5 profile? 

While mine is nearly there, I'm afraid to dig down and fine tune a couple things without jacking up some settings.  Most notably when I zoom in on the control graph for any axis, the view changes and I can't figure out how to adjust what I need to adjust and then get back to default view.  :-\

The FC3 aircraft upgrades...well they're lame IMHO.  Not worth the money to me at all. 

Now then, I did some reading up on the Mi-8 today and it's one of the most exported helicopters in the world.  It can carry a bunch of weapons and is a dual purpose transport and gunship.  It should complement the DCS World quite well and it's just so refreshing to see helicopters that have never been done.

I'd still prefer an AH-64 or Mi-24, but I'll take the Mi-8 in the meantime.

IIRC the first Gen Mi-24 was heavily based on the Mi-8, greenhouse canopy and all.

A word of warning:

DO NOT map your 'Pause' key to a joystick button in the DCS games.  It can cause your keyboard keys and/or joy buttons to become unresponsive. 

I had wondered why my buttons & keys would regularly stop working during flight and eventually found the cause vaguely alluded to in a forum thread.  I'd set Pause to one of the base buttons on my HOTAS so that I could stop the game and look up anything I needed but that would eventually jack up the sim, evidentally.  Looks like removing it solved the issue.

I've been happy with FC3, but I don't own FC1 or 2 so it fills in a lot of flyables in DCS World for me.  Also.. some of the new 6DOF cockpits are nice in conjuction with TrackIR.

Huey for £13 - that's hard to resist regardless of my thoughts on the subject matter!
