Don and Jack Scruby from California were huge influences on early gaming.  Scruby started earlier, I think, and had a great advantage with having a line of figures, and putting out his magazine, Table Top Talk.
Unfortunately, Jack was all over the place, coming up with about a dozen scales for his miniatures, which was all about creating new sales.  Don was so much more into the gaming.
A marvelous person and he will be missed.  Wonder if his mag, Wargamer's Newsletter, might go into reprint.  The rules and style are all very 60s, but some great atmosphere.

During filming of Airplane, Leslie Nielsen used a whoopee cushion to keep the cast off-balance. Hays said that Nielsen "played that thing like a maestro"

RIP Donald Featherstone. His fastplay rule sheets were my first ever war-game rules - had saving throws etc. Great inspiration. He will be missed. :'( Sadly, his son was killed in a road accident a few years ago, and it went hard with the old boy. Death of a Legend though, and apparently a really nice guy.
