The 3rd inspiration for James Bond?! (Who. Who was the 3rd. Whoooooo...!)

Right, so Bond fans know Ian Fleming built a lot of JB's character and situations from himself (as a Marty Stu character).

Fans of Christopher Lee know he worked with Ian Fleming during late-war espionage missions to get high-tech Nazi science out of Soviet hands, and so is regarded as another main inspiration for the character.

I just learned who a (the?) third inspiration was; probably also for Q.

Who was it, you ask? Whoooooo? 

An actor whooooo went on to play a gadgety man of action in another equally-long-running film-or-TV property during the 70s.




Jon Pertwee.

In 2013, journalists working on declassified material found audio footage showing Pertwee had worked in Naval Intelligence briefing spies and commandos (including Fleming's team) on espionage and assassination gadgets.

There's a funny story in the article about how he had a chance to work more closely with Fleming's team but intentionally messed it up because he didn't want to work with DeGaulle's people.
