Interesting idea. I doubt it could be used against IED's like the article suggests, but it could protect light armoured vehicles from say a mortar attack.

Anything that helps save soldiers' lives is a damn good thing. I just hope they don't take 30 years to get it through the red tape. By then we'll have real personal shields, and I'll be too old to care.
