I gave this a quick go a few months back - liked the atmosphere.  I also like shooters where you get value for your hits, as in RO2.  I put Insurgency back on the shelf because I couldn't manage to set up a server - my idea was to play co-op against bots with some mates on a closed server.  Anyone managed that?  It would seem that a Grogheads co-op mission would have a few takers.

I think I must have set up a server of some kind since I control the maps and modes and bots numbers.  But, I'm happy with bots and besides I'm going on vacation in few days.

Yeah, I got that far - I just couldn't get it to work as MP

I did a little MP and it was fun.  Somehow managed to get a few player kills along the way, but I was still definitely outclassed much of the time.

The maps were still too small and cramped for my tastes, which also inclined many players to just rush every match.  Then again, I got spoiled on NovaLogic's Joint Operations years ago and have never found any comparably massive open terrain shooter which I prefer (even the biggest Battlefield maps haven't compared in overall enjoyment factor).

ARMA is huge. Try walking and not taking vehicles.

Does the latest ARMA support up to 150 players on massive maps, with all the vehicles & such too?   That might move it up on my wishlist faster.  I really miss the back & forth of those huge old JO battles, especially with all the tall grass, waterways, villages, etc to use along the way to what was essentially a front line that moved back & forth with the objectives.  Beat the snot out of it's Battlefield competitors at the time, IMO.  Flashpoint/ARMA has been pretty cool but always felt a bit clunky in spots regarding the controls and I still don't think it ever hit the sheer player scale that could churn out the big crazy purely pvp firefights (but maybe this has changed in III?).

What? You havent tried ARMA3?

Not sure about maximum. Buy they can be huge. You can even have AI to fight against or to work for you.  There are games that cover the whole ARMA island(s).  Which will take hours(?) to walk from one place to another.  Sometimes it takes 30 minutes just to get to a hotspot and then you die in a matter of seconds.

ARMA3 is not clunky anymore and is smooth like what a proper FPS should be.

Hope so.  The previous one was a bit wonky in places.  Dunno if it was the 3D animation movement or what.

Hmmm... much as I like Arma3 I find it (the multiplayer) hugely clunky.  It's still very playable, but when I  play it I'm always amazed at how much random shit I'll put up with in terms of glitchiness to experience a free-form MP battle.  Those battles (King of the Hill) are absolutely worth experiencing - just be prepared for some lag

You guys need to take another look at Insurgency.  It's awesome.  I just spent 2 hours playing and thoroughly enjoyed every minute.  It's basically a slower-paced CS:GO.  I love the idea of CS:GO but my twitch skills aren't quite there....Insurgency is right at my level.  It also helps that you can play co-op against bots, which is a lot of fun (those bots aren't pushovers).  It's currently on sale via the Humble Bundle.

Whelp if I see you playing I'll try to join :)
