Went to the grocery store early this morning.

They were playing Extreme's "More Than Words" over the store speakers.

Their crimes against humanity will not go unpunished.

Maybe it will be next week.  Maybe the next decade.  But the kielbasas will be placed in between the buns.

I am trying to decide what it says about me that I have no idea who Extreme is or have any clue about "More Than Words".

I am not worried.

Extreme were a pretty talented hair metal bands in there late 80s and early 90s that had some pretty hook-heavy rocking tunes with some nice vocal harmonies, but then had the misfortune of having their one big hit be a way-way-way-overplayed acoustic ballad, so that's all anyone remembers from them.

If you want a better example of their tunes, look up Decadence Dance or Kid Ego or There Is No God. Hell, even the'other' ballad from their second album (When I First Kissed You) is better than their most famous hit.

Incidentally, they're often called a one-hit wonder B/C of More Than Words, but they had several chart hits

I thought they were WAY overplayed back then.  Especially that specific sappy song.

Had hoped to never hear it again.  Ever.  Indeed, I hadn't in well over a decade.  Now someone must likewise suffer.

the intro chews up the first minute.  The main riff kicks in closer to 1:07 or so

At least the neverending hellscape of Christmas carols hadn't started in that store yet.

LOL Out of curiosity, I googled Extreme Christmas Album...

Good grief...that mess has me yearning for the crap that is More Than Words... :buck2:

Actually it started a couple of weeks ago around here...
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

That store usually has oldies playing when I'm there.  As in 50s & 60s stuff.  I don't mind shopping with some old Motown in the background.. kinda relaxing.  But this Extreme business was a disturbing turn.

I am not at all surprised that Extreme did some cheesy holiday music.  Not in the least.  Because I recall thinking they were cheesy even back in their very brief heyday.
