So, I have mixed feelings about this. GoG has now started offering early access games.

This... this seems so not needed. And yet I want GoG to make a profit so it can survive (since if it folds then I've lost the games I paid some money for). And some Early Access games deserve as much exposure and sales as they can get. But already ever-unfinished dregs are creeping in.

On one hand, it's their company, I agree they can do what seems best to thrive (so long as they aren't cheating), and it isn't like we're forced to buy any such things.

On the other hand, it feels like another few feet down a slippery slope, somehow.  :-\

I don't understand my feelings on this. But here's a thread to talk about this move in a leading industry player, if anyone wants.
ICEBREAKER THESIS CHRONOLOGY! -- Victor Suvorov's Stalin Grand Strategy theory, in lots and lots of chronological order...
Dawn of Armageddon -- narrative AAR for Dawn of War: Soulstorm: Ultimate Apocalypse
Survive Harder! -- Two season narrative AAR, an Amazon Blood Bowl career.
PanzOrc Corpz Generals -- Fantasy Wars narrative AAR, half a combined campaign.
Khazâd du-bekâr! -- narrative dwarf AAR for LotR BfME2 RotWK campaign.
RobO Q Campaign Generator -- archived classic CMBB/CMAK tool!

Nope.  You can download all your games DRM-free.

Not Good OLD Games anymore.   >:(

They haven't been Good Old Games for a long time.  Now they're just GOG, which is not an acronym.

Quite alright with me.

Hopefully I can pick up a specific EA title on either site, if I decide to buy into one, without being forced to buy via Steam.

If we don't want to buy something EA, then we still have the option to wait until it's proclaimed finished.

Win-win.

...I blame Galaxy for making me forget that I can actually download installers from them.

The way I see it, selling early access game will improve GOG's bottom line and help keep them in business so they can continue to sell DRM-Free games. I don't have to buy GOG's early access games, so I don't have a problem with it.
Regardless of how good a PC game may be it will always have its detractors and no matter how bad a PC game may be it will always have its fans.

As long as they clearly mark it and build in some sort of return / refund policy...I have no problems with it.

They seem to be doing both.

In the end they are a business who is competing with a 900lb gorilla. They need to do what they can to survive. I can't fault them for that.
Insert witty comment here.

I think Darkest Dungeon was the final straw.  They're probably feeling the loss of a year's worth of sales to people who have no problem buying into Early Access.

I think this is great news.  Maybe GOG will accept Worlds of Magic now as an Early Access game.  That way I can experience the bugs while waiting for my never-to-arrive DRM-free version I was promised.

Not only that but many new releases are offered on Steam weeks before GOG gets their version.
