Halfway down this Flare Path article, mentions that Histwar is getting a coding and graphics revamp!

It certainly needs it.

Did they ever fix up the interface enough to resemble something intuitive?

This is good news.  This will get me to pull the trigger and roll up my sleeves on a game I have been following for a long time.

In the meantime guys, I recommend the napoleonic mod for Scourge of War:gettysburg. Has a few battles and a sandbox for Nappy armies. Uniforms seem good, weapon ranges and such are changed to reflect the time period and so on. It's a mod afterall but you can't go wrong with the SoW engine.

Can they form square?

No, I dont believe so. Although if I remeber correctly, there is another formation u can select that has the same effect so as to allow for that. Square is not a formation available and it is hardcoded. I know the cavalry model was redone to make their charges more powerfully since those rarely occurred in the ACW

EDIT: I just checked the lastest change log and it states that SQUARE formation IS available a battalion level!

Is it safe to assume this is a "patch" or will this be some kind of paid add-on for those that already own it?

I'd hope it was free.  Last time I checked, the full HistWar game would cost me something like $80 USD.  :o
