Had heard this during the Mexico City Olympics, that Mexico City was sinking?
Could it only be coincidence that two former sites of Olympic Games are sinking?  Sounds unlikely.

Mexico City is built on a giant lake inside a volcano.  It's a wonder it's survived this long...

Yeah, look up Tenochtitlan and Tlatelolco. They were two city states on an island in the middle of a huge lake called Texcoco, iirc. Modern Mexico City hasn't just replaced the two ancient city-states, it's actually replaced the lake as well!
