New PC…again.

I went and did something very financially irresponsible, but my decision was driven by a couple of factors. One, concern over supply and rising costs driven by tariffs and trade wars. Two, a recent pre-order purchase of a new VR headset that will require the most powerful of GPUs to run at full settings. Three, really good cinco de mayo deals and the availability of a 12 month low interest loan through Affirm. Four, the twilight of windows 10, which will eventually require me to take two or three of my existing rigs out of service.

I won't say exactly what I'm paying, but it's under $5,000, which is a steal at today's market prices. It is not that much more than what I spent on a much less powerful rig about three or four years ago when the 40xx series first came out.

For the last year, my wife has been out of work for health reasons and I've been the sole bread winner in my household. As a result, I had to really tighten up on my spending. I'm happy to say that wifey is recovering recently accepted a new job and will be starting in July. As a physician, she makes a very good income, so I will finally return to some financial flexibility and will be able to go back to enjoying the fruits of my own labors.

Ditto.  I'm glad your wife is doing better.  A Doctor and a Lawyer married to each other?  You must have some interesting dinner-time conversations.  My wife and I are both attorneys, so we keep a copy of the Constitution near our dining room table to aid us in resolving disputes...

Yeah. She comes from a family of lawyers. Grandfather, father, mother, brother, uncle, sister-in-law, etc. I half-jokingly always say that she is the only smart one. Duke grad, top of her class in just about everything. Hardest working person I know. In any event, thanks to you both for your kind thoughts. It has been a very long, difficult road, but we see the light at the end of it now.

I just got notice that this is shipping already!? I'm shocked that they built the PC so fast and that they even had the 5090 in stock...I'm not sure I'm emotionally prepared for this rig yet.

I'm glad that I went with a system builder rather than a DIY
When I parted out the components I was only saving about $200-300 and for that I get hassle free tech service for two years
Which came in handy last month when the intel CPU crapped out on me after 8 months.  They sent me a slightly upgraded new one i9 14900 KS
