BAE Systems Announces Intent to Acquire Bohemia Interactive Simulations

FALLS CHURCH, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--November 11, 2021--

BAE Systems has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Bohemia Interactive Simulations (BISim), a global software developer of simulation training solutions for military organizations. Over the coming months, the company will undertake the customary regulatory and pre-closing activities necessary to complete this type of international transaction.

Founded in 2001 and headquartered in Orlando, Fla., BISim has more than 325 employees, including in the United States, UK, Australia, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. Using the latest game-based technology, the experienced BISim team of engineers develops high-fidelity, cost-effective training and simulation software products and components to meet the growing demand for defense applications.

With the successful completion of this acquisition, BAE Systems customers would have access to the company's extensive and proven system integration experience complemented by BISim's innovative training products and solutions to enhance military readiness for the U.S. and our allies.

DLA Piper is serving as legal counsel to BAE Systems. Raymond James is serving as the exclusive financial advisor to BISim, and Jones Day is serving as legal counsel to BISim.

What the hell will this mean for the ARMA series???

Besides the "content" releases, were they actively doing much for a new version?

There was certainly speculation of an ARMA 4. Besides that, there was the Reforger project, official DLCs from content creators and more dev-branch support. From their last major sit-rep:

Quote
Looking towards the future, we have some ideas of where we want to take Arma 3 Live Ops next. The game is still strong and played by many, so we like being in a position to support it yet longer. That said, we cannot confirm what the next years will look like precisely, and Bohemia Interactive priorities may need us elsewhere. For now, we'll continue with platform updates at the current relatively slow pace. We'll still try to push out Dev-Branch updates every week, but it may easily become less frequent. Profiling Branch has also become more automated and is a good opportunity for certain types of changes to be tested publicly. And there are still Creator DLC in the pipeline that we will share more information about when they can be confirmed by us and the third-party creator teams.

Beyond that, we are exploring ways of enabling more community involvement in the further development of the platform. This may start with engaging a few more experienced community developers via external contracting and merging selected contributions to future updates. But we are also interested in ways of more direct participation, such as perhaps via platforms like GitHub. That may begin with small parts of the game, like the scripted Functions Library, but maybe there are ways to go even further over the coming years. A tricky part is to keep the main game stable enough for the entire playerbase. Properly coordinating and testing many contributions can also be quite time-consuming. One potential idea would be the launch of a special 'Community Branch' on Steam, which might be accepted to be more experimental. We may reach out to community developers for their input and will let you know when such efforts start happening. There's no reason for Arma 3 to not continue getting better!

Gotcha and thanks.  Just seemed like not much major news recently.  Certainly always enjoyed it, but hadn't heard much in where it was going int the future, besides the creator dlc.

It doesn't sound like a good thing unless they pull a Command Modern Operations and have a "professional" version
and a lesser version for Steam.

Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

It seems to be that we won't be seeing an ARMA 4 then.  BAE probably needs the tech to develop top secret training sims for real soldiers.

This will have no impact on A4 or the ARMA series whatsoever. BAE a is acquiring BIS, not BI. BIS is the Aussie based developer of the VBS series while BI is the developer of the OFP/ARMA titles. They're separate entities.

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Welcome DetCord.  I can just imagine your rush to sign up and correct our mistake.  Thanks for stopping the wailing and gnashing of teeth.  Wikipedia confirms that BIS was sold off by BI in 2013.

Welcome and thanks for weighing in :)
I was waiting for a mission, and for my sins, they gave me one.

I was actually registering to ask opinions on HighFleet but saw this post initially. I worked for BIS on VBS after leaving active duty (2005) and before reentering the military (2008), so I'm familiar with them from a professional standpoint. So again, no need for anyone to worry. Bohemia Interactive is not Bohemia Interactive Simulations.
