The sim mode is neglected by the devs like a bastard step child.  Inspite of that, it's actually really fun, the dynamic mission that runs the mode is what inspired combat box in il2 and enigma Cold War in dcs.  The complexity is about il2 level, but there's great dog fights cause the maps are smaller and the pve objectives force the players to collide and fight.  The BR system is kinda of nice in sim mode, there's no up tier or down tier.  You just pick the br you want to fly at and your opponents will be locked at the same br.

I played sim mode quite a bit until they stopped doing historical matchups in favour of free-for-alls.

Also, when they updated the engine to allow cross-platform play, I found that my joystick axes got messed up.  I spent far too much time trying to tweak them but I've never been able to get it back to where it feels right.  Any time I try to fly a fighter, it just feels really sloppy and unresponsive and I don't really get any sense of weight or inertia.  The guys who fly with the mouse and instructor assist eat me for lunch whereas I used to get 4 or 5:1 KD ratios in most games.  I only fly heavy bombers now.

The controls for sim really take some time to dial in.  Some aircraft need their own profile with curves set to dampening sensitivity. The mark9 spit for example, I had to make its own profile cause it was way to twitchy, after a while I got used to it and I'm deadly in it now.

Yeah, that's the problem.  I had my settings dialed in prior to the big patch.  Now, no matter what I try, I just can't get it right. I've spent hours and hours mucking around and trying my own as well as other people's curves.  Just isn't working out.  I don't do nearly as much flying in any sim as I used to.  Eyes are going to the point where I need progressive lenses now.  Because of that, I can only focus on a small portion of the screen at any time.  I get jumped a lot these days.

Well War Thunder is set to get the following ships.

Richelieu: The Last French Gunslinger
HMS Vanguard: End of an Epoch!
USS Iowa: The Battleship of Presidents
Yamato: The Decisive Spirit, and Ultimate Leviathan
RN Roma: City at Sea
Sovetsky Soyuz: Red Oceans
Battleship Gneisenau (has been upgunned)
Battlecruiser Sevastopol

If naval is so unpopular why do they keep pumping the ships out?
BTW Yamato will not be getting beehive rounds at they slow frame rates down too much.
Also hearing something about AA gunners needing a second player to be effective now. So expecting more aircraft fusion with naval.

Aircraft are already integrated into naval combat.

From what I read, naval realistic is roughly tied with air full sim mode as the least popular choice amongst players but that the whales who drop cash on the game are vastly over-represented in naval.  Go figure...  Must be all those wealthy yacht owners with delusions of glory.

I've unlocked all the boats in coastal and all ships in blue-water for the UK.  Got all but two of the blue-water ships for Japan but almost none of their coastal (holy crap do Japanese small boats suck!) so I should be able to start grinding for the Vanguard and Yamato right away.

I know aircraft are able to be flown after you die in your first ship. However I did not know aircraft were integrated to the point where you could specialise as an aircraft from the beginning and ignore the ship play?

I play ships occasionally, I think the coastal boats can be more fun at times because you can maneuver through the shallow inlets and islands and have a more dynamic game.  The big ships just seem like spamming fire button constantly until someone's dies.

The real meat for me is ground RB with occasional ground sim and air sim.  Still playing it pretty regularly and have got to top tier US and Italy.

Flew the Italian eurofighter for the first time last week and it was really fun.  I thought it was just going to be spamming amrams around, but the match was on the Afghanistan map, so the big mountains and valleys provided nice cover for maneuvering.

I have the F15E for US and almost have the French Rafael unlocked.

I'd say the sweet spot is between 10 to 12 br.  Planes are 80s era, and you still get close enough to dogfight.

I like all the ships for different reasons. I like the big ships because it does take skill to aim properly and a good player can disable different parts of the enemy ship at long range. But I think some maps need to be a lot larger as their is no room to move and sometimes you get shelled in your own spawn.

I'm a casual WarThunder gamer.

Although I prefer to play tanks and planes I find that ships is so much easier for me.  I don't know why but my KDR with ships is stellar compared to my performance in tanks and planes.

The update is named the Levithan update because of all the big ships being released, but low pro, ground is getting a ton of top tier sam systems.  If you hate top tier ground because you get bombed 5 seconds after spawn, well this update may have something for you.

Update is out, now to check all the new stuff out.

15in guns are definitely hard to kill much with now. So I think trees with guns above that are at a distinct advantage. Especially the Japanese that seem to have a few ships with them.
The german tree has no 16in guns and so the previously dominant scharnhorst (which I don't have) will likely get less playtime, although every man and his dog seems to be playing them at the moment. Likely because they already had them and are coming back to ships.
What I found crazy was that the moment the patch dropped people had all those leviathan ships in games. I saw the Yamato for example right away. That's a helluva lot of xp and silver lions.

I personally have no 16in ships but a fair few 15inch ships in the British and the German lines. The German ship line is now a dead end and the British line only has thr Rodney as a fairly old 16in ships lower in the tree than other 16inch ships like the Yamato, Iowa and that Russian BB that only had then keel laid.

Essentially I am not sure their is a ship I want to aim for in the lines I have ground so out so far.

Incidentally have also been seeing people say classified documents got dropped on war thunder forums again.
