Has anyone played this? If so, what is it like and do you recommend it? Does it play with a campaign mode?
The most shocking fact about war is that its victims and its instruments are individual human beings, and that these individual beings are condemned by the monstrous conventions of politics to murder or be murdered in quarrels not their own. Aldous Huxley

I played it some and made a few videos for it:

I think they are working on a campaign, but it is not yet complete.

Fantastic tactical game though not very pretty to look at. The campaign was still a work in progress last I played it with some bugs, limited objectives and frequent update patches needing to be added but if they work all the kinks out, should be a real winner. Very dedicated and helpful staff at SAI.

Great game, I have been enjoying it very much.  The campaign component is still in beta but the last patch (.30) is very playable and enjoyable even if limited to the Baltic region.  If you are interested in the period and naval warfare, this game is worth the purchase.

Just wanted to mention that there is a demo on this page http://forums.navalwarfare.net/showthread.php?2328-INFORMATION-AND-DOWNLOADS-THREAD

Their website is a bit "different" so you may not have realized.

Do they have an ETA when it will come out of Beta?  Seems like it has been in the status for a very long time, but I could be wrong.  I purchased it awhile back, but haven't gotten into it much.  With my other backlog, was going to hold off until the beta was complete.

I have played it but haven't kept up with patches. This should give you a nice idea of the basics, though :)

I don't have it but have been following along and it looks like the developers are going in the right direction. I will probably be getting it in the none to distant future, just have to work through all the newly purchased games from Christmas first.
