Putin Outlaws 'Distortion' of Soviet Union's Role in WWII

This is sad news. Only in recent years have western historians had access to Soviet archives and several great works have resulted.

Although this quote is interesting:

"Independent channel Dozhd (TV Rain) was taken off the air earlier this year after asking viewers whether Leningrad, now St Petersburg, should have been given to German troops to save lives during its 872-day siege during World War Two."

You would think Russians would know their history better. Hitler was very comfortable with starving the civilians in Leningrad, it was a part of the strategy. He didn't want to deal with a large captive population and would have likely starved them in any case. The Germans were incredibly brutal to civilian populations by this time and they would only get more brutal as time went on.
