There has been massive looting of the bodies.
I spoke to a guy who tried to see if his fallen loved one's phone would still be working and guess what; someone actually picked up and started muttering in Russian.
There are also various videos to be found where you see seperatists and civilian looking people removing jewelry from the bodies.

It just makes me furious. And the idea that even if the Ukrainian gov't eventually takes control of the area those responsible for this will have slipped away into Russland makes me even more furious.  >:(

Well, the thuggy pirates who took over the area originally, coming up the rivers (thus the Rus), were vikings. They're going back to basics.

Still, in their defense (such as it is), they're like people who have grown up in an inescapable harsh prison. They probably think this kind of behavior is their only feasible option, anything more being ludicrously self-sacrificial. It's hard to really understand how utterly ground down to ash people can get under such situations. If other people get literally ground to ash, well, it's one more statistic in a world of inescapable tragedy where morality has often been officially proclaimed to be nothing more than social pragmatism -- which the proclaimers fairly consistently followed through with in order to get to be the ones on top of the crumbling heap! Do what you're told, and then do anything you can to avoid being saddled with the consequences yourself.

There are a lot of places here in the "First" World which operate much the same way, too -- whether uncivilized or not.  :-\

ALGIERS, Algeria (AP) — An Air Algerie flight carrying 116 people from Burkina Faso to Algeria's capital disappeared from radar early Thursday over northern Mali, the plane's owner and a French government official said.

Air navigation services lost track of the MD-83 about 50 minutes after takeoff from Ougadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, at 0155 GMT (9:55 p.m. EDT Wednesday), the official Algerian news agency APS said.

That means the plane had been missing for hours before the news was made public. It wasn't immediately clear why airline or government officials didn't make it public earlier.

I can make a reasonable guess, considering the events earlier this week, why airline or gov't officials wouldn't immediately make a public statement about it.  ::)

Sounds like the French will need to step up operations down there.

(I'm joking about the Russian missile system;  but evidence looks like the local orks have been quietly upgrading their platforms.)
