Russian bases in Greece? Interesting.
There was talk of Cyprus, but the was denied by Cypriots.

I give the new cease fire 3 weeks max.
You are such an optimist.  ;)

nah, thats about the time needed to replace equipment, ammo stocks and men.
Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

Quote from: bayonetbrant on February 12, 2015, 06:02:26 AM"-Putin has never accepted the sovereignty of either the former states of the Soviet Union, or the countries that used be in the Warsaw Pact;"
Russians basically see only three countries as sovereign: Russia, China and the US. The rest are "puppets". Which that world view any negotiation with Russia is pointless, and conflict inevitable. A conflict with no rules as far as Russia is concerned. The West should use Ukraine to bleed Russia as much as possible if they were smart.
It is 1938 all over again, but more dangerous. I fear we are on the eve of WW2 part 2. This latest non-agreement in Minsk will do FA to "resolve" the situation. At least the Germans are honest enough to admit that already. There is no political solution apart from having Putin and his cronies removed from power.

If this is true, and the Russians see the US as "in decline", then they are truly worried about China into the future.
Any time is a good time for pie.

China and Russia and Venezuela, Iran, Europe and any other country has been claiming that the US is in a decline.....any day now!

While we maybe declining the rate and trend of our decline is a lot less than all those other countries.  I love these high level reports that don't provide any details or facts to back up their assertions.

On the other hand I am quite interested in an intellectual way on the A10 vs the F16 is a CAS debate.  This might get tested out now and all those hypothetical could be now backed up with real missions.  I hope the best for the A10 but I do feel that the SAM and MANPAD offensive technology in hitting and damaging slow moving planes has moved past the A10.  Its the military version of Boeing Dreamliner vs Airbus A380.

Keep in mind countemeasures for SAMs has improved quite a bit as well. And we're still quite good at SEAD.

Putin is cunning and i would guess he would consider to try to exploit bankrupt EU countries if it served a purpose

Putin will go down in history as the man who saved the A-10.

True, but is the A-10 a Wild Weasel platform really?

No but we have assets for that mission, so that the A-10 can do it's job

Thats an F-16 mission IIRC.

"Russian Special Forces (SF) are no longer Spetznatz, they are based on US Special Forces" -- thank God, no backflipping axe-throwers to worry about.  >:D

Russian airbase in Egypt or Greece == Mediterranean boil. Worse if Egypt; deadly if both.

Russian support for nationalism could be strong without equivalent support for Putin personally; but at the ground level (civiies and basic troops) the distinction is practically the same because of Putin's autocracy. (Regardless of how much that's a figurehead for whatever-interests.)

Star, has the Strike Falcon (or whatever the ground attack family is called -- I'm embarrassed to say I've forgot) taken over the F-111 and/or F-117 duties? Or are Frisbees rare enough that they go in first for the toughest key positions with Falcon Linebackers blitzing close behind for mop-up? Come to think of it, I haven't heard of F-111s in a while...

both F-111s and F-117s are retired and have been for a while.
interdiction missions are covered by F-15E Strike Eagles and SEAD is mostly covered by F-16s with some overlap.
at this point Im pretty sure that "knock the door" in missions on the first night would be covered by B-2s now.
