GOG released F117A Stealth Fighter today. What a classic flight sim. They just don't make them like this anymore.

I was thinking it was going to be an insta-purchase for me, but then I got to looking at the screenshots and came to the conclusion that there is just no way that it will hold up these days. Its a game from a time passed and probably best left as a pleasant memory.

Still, a really brilliant sim. I am glad its available.

sometimes great games from the 90s were great because it was the 90s - now its not quite the same

there was high hopes for a HD remake of Outcast but it failed the kickstarter - again, probably best left in the past

I played the heck out of that game when it came out! It's tempting even with the old school graphics.

I recall enjoying F-19 as much as any modern sim. That and 'Red Lightning' were played to death back in my Amiga days.

I play my version under DOSBOX all the time. I still crank up SE II as well. I still have my F-117 printed manual. Those were the days.

I get the comments about "not standing up" but I have no problem with the graphics myself. I simply have not found another sim that replaces F-117 in terms of gameplay.

It supports a two button joystick just fine. It also has great keyboard support. You can adjust key sensitivity if you are flying with the keyboard.

I used to cast long, lustful stares at this one back at Babbages in my Amiga heyday but never played it. I agree it's too retro for my digital tastes today but I'm tempted to buy it just to support GOG's excellent work here.

I had the microprose pack Strike eagle 3 and F117A. SE3 was fun, if lame compared to Falcon 3. A simple intro to flight simming. F117A was a bit better.

I remember just flying around because the graphics were so cool. I think it was my first flight sim that had multiple buildings, streets, lights -- you know, graphics for stuff other than your target.

Of course, my first computer was a CPM radio shack home kit with 10.5 inch floppy disks, and I have a thumbdrive 1000x the capacity of my second computer, and IBM XT -- you know, the one with the massive 30mb hard drive. A long way indeed..

Of course, I didn't feel that way when my wireless keyboard died the other day and I used a ps/2 plug from approximately the 3rd century for my old wired keyboard. Yes, somehow I managed to skip the entire "usb wired keyboard" phase.

I could write a short novel on my experiences with the game. I remember one mission, over North Korea, where I shot down 13 Yaks with my internal gun.

I remember another mission where my idiot brother-in-law flew into the teeth of a heavily defended Soviet Union, and ended up with a Silver Star and 2000 points. He hasn't let me forget it since, and it's been more than 20 years!

This is the one...yeah, the graphics aren't that great, but it's the GAME PLAY that I like. For this reason, I still play Master of Magic, Imperialism II, Darklands, and Baldur's Gate.
