Almost every day I come home to find the dice knocked out of my dice cup or from my dice tower and scattered on the floor.  Cats are very astute...they watch us roll the dice and see the enjoyment that we get from it so they want to try it for themselves.  Dogs just eat them.

Not any dog I ever had. I've had from Rottweiler's to Chihuahua's and not had one of them eat a single die yet.

My dogs are why I'm trying to sort out a "secure" gaming room. I don't think they'll eat the die, but my younger one will sure as hell chew up counters and maps, given the chance. A boxer with separation anxiety is a terrible thing.

I keep the danes and the cat out of the mancave.  It's made easier by the fact that it's a separate entrance through the garage.

What do you have against danes? It's been many centuries since they did any real pillaging.

Outside of a few football matches anyway...

you haven't met our danes.  Many a counter-top dish has been plundered by them

I think something might be wrong with my cats.  They used to plop themselves inside the game box or on the map board whenever I broke out a board wargame but lately they don't seem interested at all.  Not even in trying to bat the counters across the floor.

Our last ASL game...the Greeks got "swooshed" across the map and a couple of squads plunged 100's of feet to their deaths off the edge of the table cliff; all at the paws of a giant, sinister cat that somehow found a way to get under the giant "dome" covering the battlefield below.

I've thought of a gaming "box" that I may attempt to design and make.  Simple concept, it would be a lightweight wooden flat box with hinges on the sides so that it could be opened up.  Inside the mapboard would sit.  When the game is sitting unplayed, simply close up the sides and put the cover on.  I want to design it so that it can either fold up or come apart in portable pieces however and the wood needs to be lightweight.  I'll put rubber padding on the underside so that it doesn't easily bump and scoot across the table (thus doing the dirty work for the cat).  I'll post any pics if/when I begin to design this thing.

My 14 year old beagle just eats, sleeps and occasionally does a seated 360 on the carpet.  No danger of messing up any games here, just the carpet.
