I'm probably late to the party as I'm sure this has been hashed and rehashed a number of times but what's the deal with Pbem and TCP/IP play in the CMx2 engine?  It's basically worthless, which is a shame since it worked so well in the CMx1 engine.

In what way is PBEM worse?  I actually think it is much better.  You now get a movie and plot in each email turn. That is a HUGE step forward,  in my opinion.  If there is any downer, it is that the files are so large. But I use Dropbox for most of my games.

TCP is another thing. It has gotten better but until it has turn replay, it will still be on the top of my wish list because TCP remains my favorite mode of play.

GJK

Then I'm missing something...and so is my opponent...because we get no movie replay...just the end of the turn results.  My opponent looked on the forums and said that he found that it works like that in both Pbem and TCP/IP.  I'll have to check the forums myself because we must be missing something... ?

Yeah, you must be missing something.  The way the CMx2 system works is that the first exchanges are only to create a password.  Once you get going with the game, you will have a movie and a plot with each email. If you're not seeing this, create a ticket in the Help Desk and send me the file. I'll take a look at it. Make sure to include your password.

That's great MD. I checked out the mods section at Battlefront and didn't note any. I wonder what were some of the color schemes for the Red Army in 1944? I'm more interested in a more historically accurate look than to just pimp them out. By the way, I loved your scenarios for CMBN-- great work.

You want to grab Aris' tank skins, those are the ones that have the decals. The markings aren't a separate mod. You actually replace the entire tank texture. He's done nearly every vehicle in the game, and in the previous games, too. They look great.
A clear +1. :) Aris' mods are extremely nice indeed. 8) However, they are also a big download too. :(

Thanks, I'll investigate it some more when I get home but for both my opponent and myself, we get the file and the button is blinking red.  We press it and it just automatically forwards to the end of the turn with units moved, destroyed, etc but there is no movie playback.  Maybe we're not understanding how to start the playback properly.

Ah! Now I see what you're doing  wrong.  When the game is finished loading you press the ESC key to begin the movie. There's a message across the top of the screen that says something like game paused. Press ESC to begin playback"

See, that's why I'm the tech support guy. I know how to handle the hard questions.  :)

GJK

Ah, well I know I should RTFM but it is confusing that it's the ESC key for pbem movie playback when the single player game as well as in the original series you click the "GO" button to begin playback....the same "GO" button that is blinking on/off red when you load the turn screaming "Click me, click me!".

But the good news is, you *can* actually see what happened during the turn.  ;)

No one is more guilty of not reading a manual than.

You'll see when you load up your turn that it displays the instructions on the screen. I always think of the Go button as "I'm finished plotting" rather than "I'm ready to watch the movie".But is, as you correctly point out, both in solo play.
