Huh.  That's really interesting Meng.  The counters seem so odd, because of the modern use of NATO organizational symbols in a lot of games.  The German counters seem to be based on actual German organizational symbols, but it's hard to make out details on the counters.  I have no idea how to read the Soviet counters.  Good quick breakdown of German organizational symbols http://niehorster.orbat.com/011_germany/symbols/_symbols_41.html or http://niehorster.orbat.com/011_germany/symbols/_symbols_43.html.

Craig Grando (former artist, Against the Odds) created some of the most spectacular looking maps that I've seen in recent history (along with Niko's work) but then he would do some of the funkiest things with the counters.  I enjoy Fortress Berlin (I think Niko did that map, Craig the counters) but it's almost unplayable as is because of the counters and the whacky color scheme that Craig chose to use. Nearly the same issue with this game it would appear. <shrug>

  It's an odd game, no doubt.  Like the Grand Tactical System, it attempts to use period symbology.  I've been looking at maps from the period in Gantz Endgame at Stalingrad and I can read some of the stuff on the counters.  Russian Rockets and AT (which is T) had me stumped, but they are nothing like say the Italian symbology in No Question of Surrender.
   It seems like a neato game to me, but I may be the only person who likes it much at all.

I'd hope that they there was a chart or graphic that identified the counter symbols.  I think it's a cool idea to use era organizational symbols, but it'd be interesting to read some history of graphical organizational symbols.  I'd be very surprised if there were codified symbols prior to last century.
