STATE OF THE REPUBLIC



MORTALITY PHASE
- Increased age by I, C. Scipio is the eldest Senator at current time based on age and influence.



REVENUE PHASE
- Distributed Talents as per the governing faction instructions, Rome's Treasury is now 366.



FORUM PHASE



- The Senate was made aware of the outbreak of War in Syria and have began debating on the number of Legions to send.  There is also strong discussion on who will lead the Legions against the Syrian forces, the Senate appears to be split on Cornelius Scipio or Fabius Maximus.  Fabius is a front runner for a Consul seat  and Scipio is the current Rome Consul and in-line for Censor.



- Unfortunately by fate the next draw was Antiochus III, commander of the Syrian forces.  This now gives them a +5 bonus and a increase form a Landforce/Fleet suppport of 6/2 to a total of 11/7.

- The Conservative gained 1 Concession (Tax Farmer 6 2Talents per turn). They will play the card during the Rev. Phase.
- 1 Knight by the Populists.  The others who tired, failed their attempt.
- No persuasions as there are no Senators available in the Forum and all other positions are firm on loyalty.  However, it is to note that Scipio has gained tremendous influence and will be one to recon with as he has strengthened Plurocrats position in the Senate.

- Populists won the extra initiative, and drew an intrigue card.



POPULATION PHASE
- There was no change in the Unrest as Rome is setting at +2.
-  Manpower Shortage has ended which will give Rome her much needed pool of manpower for the coming Syrian War.


Currently the worked out Dominate Coalition is the Popuists, Conservatives, Imperials, and Plutocrats.  We are left out of the decision of the coming vacant seats in the Senate... next up is the Senate Phase and to War!

Dominate Coalition is the Popuists, Conservatives, Imperials, and Plutocrats.

SENATE PHASE

- The Senate convened to address several issues of the Republic starting with electing new Consul positions.

Fabius Maximus of the Imperialist faction was a candidate and front runner for Rome Consul, however he favored the Field Consul position to prosecute the Syrian War.  A deal was worked out that allowed Maximus to become Field Consul and Aurelis of the Conservatives to become Rome Consul and Scipio as Censor.

No Landbills were introduced as a successful campaign against the Syrians would hopefully reassure the people of Rome.

The attention of the Senate turned to the Syrian War.




Looking at the threat we currently have 4 Legions and no navy to speak of.  The strength of the Syrian army with Antiochus III at command is (6 Army + 5 From Leader Strength) 11 and we will need at least 2 Fleets to transport the Legions.

The Senate agreed to construct 2 Roman Fleets and raise an additional 8 Legions to bring the strength to the army to 12.  The Senate is still planning for the 1st Punic War and this build up will help prep for the war which may be a consideration next turn depending on how the turn unfolds.

As Field Consul, Fabius Maximus would lead the legions against the Syrian army and face off again Antiochus III.

No other items on the agenda.



COMBAT PHASE

12 Legions + Fabius 5 = Rome Total Strength is 17

Syrian Army 6 + Antiochus III 5 = Total Strength of 11

The difference is +6 drm for Rome.

I rolled a 13 with 3d6 + 6 gave me 19



Looking at the combat table, Rome received 0 Losses in the battle.  Fabius totally routed the Syrian army and now Rome has seized the Syrian province.



When the Senate convene again, a Governor will be named and he will Govern the provence for 3 turns.

Fabius returned to Rome victorious and gained popularity and influence.  Legio IV is now considered a Veteran Legion and favors it commander Fabius Maximus.  Fabius returned the Legions back over to Rome's control.



Fabius now has 3 Popularity and has the Allegiance of Legio IV. 



REVOLUTION PHASE

- A concession was played by Aurelis of the Conservatives (Tax Farmer 6 +2 Talents per turn)

Neat to see someone else playing with my mods.

I did want to clarify that I do leave the mortality chit draw in when I play (life was brutal).
Whist there's a claim made in the rules that the senators are essentially representing the family,
that is NOT the case with statesmen. It would be easy to have Scipio last all three decks that way.

Adding the aging also shakes up families being in the same faction - there's a desire to move the
faction leader marker around to keep a known aging senator's family in your faction. Doing so opens
up the possible loss (through random chit if nothing else) of some of the more powerful families (like
the Cornelii) who can be an advantage through play.
