Today Judge Dredd and I did a mission.

We had 3x Challenger 2's, 1x FOV90 , 4xM109A3

OPFOR
BTR80's
BMP-3's
Infantry , RPG teams and Rifle, HMG squads.
T90's

Overcast with poor visibility.

Mission was to recon and avoid enemy engagements where possible and enter tthe objective (Terrier). We ended up with 1 x Challenger 2 and 2 x M109A3.

Judge Dredd faced an onslaught of enemy infantry on the outskirts of the objective... RPG's flying left and right...He battled through and reached the objective.  :knuppel2: (4/1/A)

Mission Start

Mission End

Challenger 2 Stands Proud (Judge Dredd)

There was a lot of blood and sweat in between. Including RPG strikes! Maybe Judge Dredd will produce an AAR  :)

Some images from our mission today (Asid and myself).

It was a recon mission - get to an objective undetected or fighting through.

Losses were

  • 2xChallenger II
  • 1xFOV90
  • 2xM109A3

We won!
The route...

First to be dispatched - some BTR's

And a BMP3

Asid was hit by sneaky infantry

He returned the favour

Fatal hit to Asid's Challenger - the smoke behind him is me...I popped smoke and reversed. I actually saw the missile heading towards him

The infantry were sent to meet their maker

More infantry gone

Asid took out a T-90

And a BMP3

Asid hit by a BMP3

Asid lost his sights, thermal and commander

I eventually got the BMP3

I was also hit by a BMP3

Our FOV90 was taken out by a T-90. I think that's the one I spotted in the woods - but I couldn't get my gun in position and it eventually sneaked off into the forest...but it came out to play again!

BMP3 hit...no damage

It was less lucky next time

T90 destroyed

Asid and the last surviving spare Challenger was taken out

Another T90 taken out

Infantry hiding near the objective...they were tough to get rid of...I thought I had several times!

Me hit by infantry

I popped smoke and reversed quick smart back across the crest...Asid sent in an M109A3 to check...ending badly

Another one taken out...it was costly but he was trying to get eyes on to save our last player Challenger

I eventually got eyes on, but my coax didn't take them out - so I ran over the last remaining guy

And this was the end picture from the red perspective

And from our side...

It was a great game - thanks Asid.

Question...fighting infantry...what's the trick?  Still trying to get my grasp of this game so today tried a single player mission which had a combo of tanks and infantry as the enemy.  I was playing the commander position, letting my gunner do his thing.  I did pretty well in taking out the tanks, but when it came to the infantry, my tank platoon didn't seem to know what to do.  The infantry was plain as day in front of my platoon (and some of my tanks, including mine even drove right over top of them), but my gunners in my tank as well as the rest of the platoon would not engage them.

Is there a trick for infantry?  They have no issue firing at tanks and other vehicles, just infantry so I am assuming I must be missing something.

If the infantry are hidden, behind a tree or buried then it can be difficult to engage. Also if you are to close. I never have an issue engaging infantry. The TC identifies them and the AI gunner will engage. Same with a tank that is entirely AI controlled. I tend to jump in the gunners seat (F6) and engage the infantry with coax.

Let me know if you want to co-op  O0

It was strange for sure...they were in an open field and firing on my tanks....just would think the tanks could see them and fine them based on their fire alone.  Not sure how my tanks would miss them as we rolled over top of them and then I even placed the platoon just a little ways away facing them.

Oh well, maybe just a one time thing...

I've had occasional problems getting my AI gunner to engage enemy infantry.  It often happens when they're taking cover in a forest.  The way the game portrays infantry in cover is interesting because they "sink in" to the terrain a bit, depending on their stance and how much dirt they're grabbing at any one time.  I think we can sometime see them on thermals but the AI may not think it so clear cut.  In this case, just jump into the F6 Gunner's seat, switch to your Coax if it's not already there, and work them over with the machinegun.  It's therapeutic.

I have also enjoyed firing the 25mm Bushmaster on the Bradleys at various stuff.  O0  I blasted some infantry that the AI couldn't quite make out with the 40mm(?) on one of the CV90 models the other day but that thing is pretty slow and needs constant reloading.  Still fun making some chunky salsa with it when the target is hunkering down in the bush and the 7.62 coax isn't penetrating through some of the cover.

TLDR:  If the gunner spots but doesn't shoot, then take over and blast 'em yourself.   ;)  Better than moving closer to persuade him and getting an RPG for your troubles.

I like that little Recon mission.  Lotsa ambush terrain to travel through and the enemy forces seem very randomized.

Hope to get back in with you guys soon.

Looks like I have been missing some serious fun! :)

Work has started again for me, so no more days in a row I can dedicate to SB. With a little luck I'll be online in a few hours, though. If only to wrap up my mission, get the scoring sorted and upload it for everyone to enjoy.

EDIT: The mission is now finished and submitted to Steelbeasts.com. It needs a period of approval before it shows up in the downloads, though. A link will follow once it is up. In the mean time I have it hosted from my Dropbox in the mean time.
Look on Yassy HQ to get it.

Great! The score system should now work as well.
I tried to make it so that it reflects not only your individual score, as well as present the player with a good sense of overall score.
Be aware that you have two priorities in the mission; 1) make sure as many friendly units survive as possible 2) occupy objective Alpha.
These will score the most points.
But there is fun to be had trying to get in as high a score as you can, of course! ;)
