Mission Summary :
After tropical storm, electrics are away from the isle, and there seems to be unusually much of communication problems.

After nearly 6 weeks of participation to war actions at the North Korea, Dogs of War is finally assumed a welcome break from front lines.

DOW company was pulled away from front line into reserve. Much of main equipment being lost in war, so it is now essential and good time to take care of what is left. Doing all the maintenance and repairs. For this DOW company or what remain was shipped to an isle of Santa Catalina under US control. There being enough of support, supply and engineering assets to repair what remains.

Officer of Isle being very friendly, you have been provided surprisingly loose schedule, and lots of spare time to spend in city of Santa Catalina.
After an week of partying and relaxing while away from the front lines, your strength is returning.

However, last night seemed to be very rough as rather large tropical storm sweep over the isle. At times heavy wind caused electric breaks, and it was nearly impossible to see anything at all cause of downpour of water.

Currently it seems that storm is finally over. It is almost ghostly, as there is no wind at all, and yet it is nearly impossible to see even street lights cause of dense fog rising up.

Moment later you may have noticed how streetlights were taken off, and there came command of turning away lights from buildings. This was nothing unusual, as when ever there was unknown movement in the radar this was standard procedure.

But you, and all of your men's being woken up right after that, and told to get ready in 10 minutes...  is something unusual. What is going on?

Some of my screenshots from Saturday Away From Frontlines D.O.W. mission.

We stared just before dawn. DOW received ordered to investigate start activity at the radar station. On the way we picked up our vehicles.

Eagles lead the column towards a depot where we picked up the second SEP, Bradleys and an LAV.


We started our patrol heading towards the radar station. A single bradley leads a section of SEPs and with the CO closing the column.


The northern group was split into smaller elements and told to patrol the northern part of the island. It is there where the enemy dropped and an A-bomb. EMP disabled most of the communication on the island an crucial electronics. Blind as crippled moths we continued our mission.


Close to the airfield we engaged enemy troops. It was a decoy that left us exposed an attack helicopter. Wilso, Asid and Lusik lost their vehicles and crews.


Asid's Bradley and Lusik's SEP burned fiercely.


We received new vehicles at the depot and commenced a counterattack. Durham and Lusik/Wilso defended the northern approach to the depot while the rest of the DOW company made a dash towards the HQ.


Ulan was no match for Rotar's SEP


The counterattack was successful but both sides suffered heavy losses.


All that time we had a spy at the farm in the central part of the island.

Taking back Suomussalmi COOP by Lumi

Mission Summary :
MISSION:  20th of June, early at the morning 2:00 Am. Delta-Force is to engage town of "Old" Suomussalmi town on other side of lake Kianta's southern cap. By  moving armor over Beavers bridge, destroying any enemy armor it spotted while moving trough the town.   Enemy infantry that directly poses threat to Delta units is taken care accordingly.  Delta continues down along road 9150, in aim to move to road 912 and block it So that enemy is unable to bring any heavy reinforcements of supplies to actual City of   Suomussalmi that it is likely trying to hold. After that Delta is to move south along road 912 closer Suomussalmi City and attempt to block enemy's movement out of the city. By this way isolating them away from all their supplies.     And finally to attack enemy from behind. East of Suomussalmi City. By this way supporting (PC controlled) Main force attack, and sealing enemy's fate.

SITUATION:

Enemy:
Russian's massive attack along our sector has pushed us way behind of our defensive positions. They managed to gain firm control of Suomussalmi City and most importantly railroad in there. We are in understanding that enemy's strength would be at least battalion of enemy in there. Their intentions in our sector is trying to permanently prevent us from moving reinforcement's to our weakened northern frontier.

Beside Suomussalmi enemy has control of many other important areas especially in south but most importantly north. They have taken Town of "Old" Suomussalmi, After pushing our forces out of there. 12th infantry company managed to retreat over lake Kianta, but suffered heavy losses as enemy followed. In that fight we lost much of our armor and men's. 12 Infantry company however managed to prevent enemy getting across lake Kianta. Surprisingly only bridge across it is still intact. Beavers bridge. 12 Company had no change to mine that bridge in nearly chaotic retreat and ever since enemy got control of other side of lake their artillery and snipers have prevented us from even getting close to shoreline.
So far 12th company has managed to deflect all enemy attack attempts across lake Kianta or via beavers bridge that is their only way to move heavy armor to other side for now. That is why bridge still exist.

It's been silent for over an week now. But enemy movement at other side can be frequently heard. 12th company estimates there to be a full company of enemy infantry and some unknown amount of enemy armor. As conclusion. Enemy strength in area is remarkable. They have managed to bring amount's close to company of heavy armor along road 912 to area. They are constantly supplied by air with helicopters. Careful assumption would be that they have already near mechanized battalion of armor in sector. Covered by unknown number but seemingly endless amount artillery strikes where ever they seem to need it.      Also they have unquestionable control of airspace, and use their air superiority constantly used. In forms of planes and choppers.

Own:
Ever since Russian forces pushed 12th infantry company - Charlie to west side of lake Kianta, and remains of companies 9 -Alfa and 10 - Bravo south of Suomussalmi. We have been struggling against superior enemy force      in area. By luck enemy movement slowed remarkably as they reached Suomussalmi city. And we have been able to slow down their movement towards west and north west where they seem to be focused.     Our small amount of Armor in the area was almost completely destroyed during enemy forces push. And what remains has been given to units at west of Suomussalmi city, and reinforced with      mechanized armor companies Alfa and Bravo. Delta force has been made from parts of these and is to support reinforced 12th infantry company at the west side of lake Kianta and town of "old" Suomussalmi.

We have moved company of artillery south west of Suomussalmi city, It is mainly to support Alfa and Bravo companies in their mission of taking back city of Suomussalmi that they unarguable are going to need. But will in special circumstances give small amount of support to Delta force as well - Described later.

What remains of our Air-force in area is to engage enemy air units that get out of their air defense area.

Attachments and detachments: Delta force is made of attachments received from Alpha and Bravo. This contains:

• platoon of leopard 2A4:s,
• Platoon of cv90:s
• platoon of Sisu PC:s. 

   

Task is to Co-operate with Charlie (12th infantry company) In north part of Suomussalmi Area as a independent force called - Delta, and share forces with each others in case of need.     

Attachment's given.
Deltaforce and 12th infantry company share a platoon of Amos mortar systems. Section to each - Call sign Golf

To Deltaforce is given:
ABL, ARV, and mixed platoon containing 2 suply units, medic, and repair truck to help maintain mobility of Delta-force during mission. - Call sign Hotel.     

MISSION:
Starting from 18th of June. Alfa And Bravo are to attack enemy in Suomussalmi and to push it by all means away from railroad, and airfield. And to take control of actual city step by step.
Charlie is to stay guarding western shores especially narrow cap areas where enemy might try crossing. Staying as reserve force for units at area.

EXECUTION:

Intent:Delta's task is to move to cut enemy's supply route, and to engage enemy in city of Suomussalmi from behind.

Concept of Operation:
- Delta is to secure western shore of Beavers bridge, cross it, engage and destroy any enemy armor in town of  "old" Suomussalmi.
- To proceed down along road 9150 to crossroads of 912, and to block 912 to east with minefield and infantry over watching it.
- To take control of objective University and secure it with remaining infantry
- Proceed south along road 912 clearing enemy from way, and to secure northern shore of Driftbridge
- Proceed south along road 912, and then to west towards city of Suomussalmi, clearing enemy from the way.
- Isolate, and if possible destroy any enemy units in Suomussalmi City and to wait further orders.

Maneuver:       

1/D platoon - Leopards are armored fist of Delta. They are to give support to 2 and 3 Delta against enemy armor. Their main task is to engage any enemys heavy armor. That we are expecting to be near road 912 and closer Suomussalmi City. Some might be located into "Old" town of Suomussalmi but not much.

2 /D platoon - CV9030 are responsible of engagin any enemy soft and air targets during course of mission and to protect tanks by any means agaisnt enemy infantry and air assets.
        2/D - Infantry squads are to find and engage any enemy, dangerous or hard to engage by  AFV:s during route.

3 /D platoon - Sisu's are responsible providing amphibious attack to opposite shore of lake Kianta if needed. Possible landing areas are marked to your map. And if needed to safely carry infantry into engagement areas, where to dismount troops and follow after them from small distance.
        3/D - Infantry squads are to secure eastern beach of lake Kianta if needed, or any objective such as blocking force to road 912.

Fires:  - Golf
Amos mortar section - Golf is to support Delta-force as their prime artillery. Especially dedicated to task. By staying in reach of Delta-force all time.
Golf's main task is to provide effective multi-spectral smokescreen cover to Beavers bridge for Delta to safely cross it if needed. And to reply any urgent need of artillery asset Delta-force may have during mission.

XO/D carries FO-squad that has communications with - Golf         

As addition Deltaforce is responsible to call an Fascam mission to block road 912 when time comes to place that CO/D sees best. - This mission is High-priority target reference point and will be responded as fast as possible. Other than that Delta has to rely on section of mortars it has.


Additional assets: - Hotel
Hotel is to support and move with Delta during mission       

- Biber ABL - Been assigned to help Delta in case of worst scenario that Bridge is so damaged that it breaks or is mined and blown up.
       Additional bridge has been hauled to near Beavers bridge location as well. Just in case of worst scenario.
- Wisent ARV - Is assigned to help Delta any means possible. It is recovery / breaching vehicle as it's equipped with mine-blows And RWS for self defense during breaching operation.
- 2 Supply trucks are carrying helpful supplies and ammunition for Delta-force
- Ambulance
- Repair truck to keep Delta-force and its attachments in running order
