It was a solid ending that tied up everything needing to be tied up. I'd say the ending with Jax was a bit melodramatic but the entire 7 year run was filled with melodrama. Now's probably not the time to complain.

Even though we all knew how it had to end, the last minute of the show was still a punch in the gut. Much like the final moments of Breaking Bad, the ending soundtrack could not have been more perfect nor set the scene any better. We saw some of the old Jax, the guy we were rooting for once upon a time. In the hierarchy of final episodes, Sons did well.

Speaking of the finale song (and thank God they didn't use "Knocking on Heaven's Door" like we heard in the promo), I just picked this tidbit up:

The sprawling ballad was recorded by Sons of Anarchy's in-house band, the Forest Rangers, and sung by Jake Smith, a.k.a. the White Buffalo, while the lyrics were penned by the show's creator, Kurt Sutter.

Sutter is apparently a song writer as well. I thought it was amazing how well the lyrics fit Sons, now I guess we know why.

In the hierarchy of final episodes, Sons did well.

Complete agreement. All too often, final episodes are a disappointment. The Sons ending was entirely satisfying and held to the tone of Shakespearean tragedy that Sutter sought throughout.

On the aftershow, which I assume everybody already has seen, Sutter was asked this very question and replied very coyly she's whatever you want her to be. I never understood it myself and just chalked it up to artistic license. I do think it would've been very cool for Jax to start to see and talk to Jemma like Jemma did with Tara. Some of you that scored higher than I did on the SOA quiz, answer this one. Did the Homeless Woman ever interact with or was seen by anyone but Jax during the show? That could have a lot to do with what Sutter's trying to say here.

Gemma saw her as well last season or the one before. Which, if the homeless woman was an angel of death, makes sense.

I thought I remembered her being at the cemetery when Opie's wife was buried and Jax gave her his coat. And I thought I remembered Tara was with him in the scene. Which could make sense now if she was the Death Angel.  :o Wouldn't it be weird if Sutter had telegraphed all along who was going to get killed by who saw her? Makes me want to go back and watch all 7 seasons over again-- which I did already anyway.

She was in the first or second episode.  I remember several other occurrences.  That's why I wasn't totally surprised to see her in the finale.  Never knew who she was, but, wondered what part she played in the whole thing, if any.

SOA Withdrawal!!! Need somebody to stick a fork in the back of somebody's head. Or pop an eye out, or hell I'll settle for good prison beat-down. 10pm Last night I sit in front of my TV and wait for the sound of Harleys and gunfire and.... NOTHING. Sutter should have to go back to that damned prison for real for doing this to us. >:(

I'm ignoring all the spoilers in this thread just to say I started watching SOA again last night. The last time I tried I got through Season 1 and a few episodes of Season 2, but no further. Not because I don't like the series - far from it. No doubt some other shiny thing distracted me.

Could be that you knew Season 3 was waiting for you when you finished.  Don't get me wrong, I love SoA, but, the whole Ireland/Abel/IRA storyline was shite.  There were some good moments, but it was mostly hard to understand accents and whole lot of no reason for anything going on.
