sure.  all companions have a 2 season lifespan more or less.  its just part of the show and how it works.  when you get a new Doctor the current companion sticks around to get the audience through the transition by providing consistency.  when you get down to it the only constant is the Doctor.

Karen Gillan as Amy Pond was better.

IMHO

its hard to define.  all of the new Doctors have had really strong female companions.  Id go as far as to say that theyve all been stronger and better Sarah Janes ( who redefined the role of companion).

Yes, I started watching TV at all during the 4th Doctor's run. I'm working back up to him.

The 1st Doctor managed to keep the series going and established maybe half the ground lore, but the reason the series didn't fold early was definitely the 2nd Doctor and the directions taken by the writing team and the directors -- especially in his second season. Lots of inventive camerawork (not for sfx so much as for keeping visual interest in what's happening on screen).

Apparently a decision was made, temporarily, to have the TARDIS flying more normally rather than to be materializing and dematerializing: in "The Tomb of the Cybermen" the excavation team sees it land from space, and "The Fury from the Deep" actually shows it landing in the ocean from space. Though it also materializes and dematerializes, too. Whichever is more convenient to the plot: it didn't get down into the London subway in "The Web of Fear" from space! (...well, it kind of did, as the Great Intelligence catches it there first and drags it to Earth.)

Anyway, with the 2nd Doctor's 2nd season I've finally reached stories that I don't mind watching all the way through without mentally marking where they could stand to be edited down a lot. ;)


Also, with "Fury" (which I started this weekend), the first appearance of the sonic screwdriver. Back then it only did what it says on the tin, of course.   :coolsmiley:
