I can't figure out what to download and where to actually put it.  I'm not the only one.  Within 10 minutes of release there were already questions.  Moon says to read the download instructions, but I don't see the instructions in the download notes.  He says in one response if you have the VP, you don't need the brz(?) file but need the bin files.  Where do you put them to run them?

Any buddy with the Vehicle Pack install it and get it running.

btw, can BFC ever just release a simple patch without angst over installs and DRM?

edit...and this clears it all up...not.  http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=117794

my eyes deceive me surely.......

youre compaining about Battlefront and its DRM? You? surely not

I am complaining about the patching process.  I really don't give a crap about the DRM.  I know in your eyes they can do no wrong, but take a look at the complaints they are getting.  They have to do something.  Each time it seems to get a little more cocked up.  Again, I would assume I am completely out in left field if I was the only one.  Follow the three or four threads active right now.  These aren't some noobs.  There are guys complaining that never say boo about anything BFC does.  I think its close to a breaking point where people will avoid buying.

I don't know why you always seem to think I obsessed with DRM.  I don't care about it.  I want patches to be simple and not break my game...DM or no.

btw, I noticed you didn't answer the question.

It sure would be nice if things were less abstruse.  When I installed version 3.0 for CMBN, booted up the game, and saw "v.2.20", I was, um, confused... But turns out that's right.

The only game with more confusing nomenclature for 'patch' 'engine' 'version' naming conventions is, interestingly, Graviteam Tactics -- probably CMx2's nearest competitor.

Both CMx2 and GT Operation Star will never leave my HD -- I love them both with fanatical devotion.  And yet patching/updating for both can be crazy-making...

EDIT -- sorry RyanE, can't offer any useful advice -- I've deliberately held off buying the Vehicle Pack until the patching stuff gets a little more smoothed out, and until there's a little more in the way of user-made scenarios for the new vehicles.  (I'm kinda amazed the Pack was offered without anything in the way of scenarios/battles to actually use the new vehicles with...)

the second link you posted not only has an explanation of difficulties, whats going on behind the scenes but directs you to where to do it properly - and as of 21:10 GMT tonight concludes with a thankyou message - how is that not helping?

Quote from moon..."If you want to reduce the download size, you can skip the brz files you already have and simply deselect them. But you MUST run the Setup.exe"

This is what confused me.  I think you have to download the 311 brz file.  I think he meant to say you don't need to download the 310 and vehicle pack brz files.  It seems to conflict with the official instructions and hs other posts.  He also dosn't mention you have to download the bin files and until later.  That lead to some confusion also.  I think BFC is assuming all their users know the file naming conventions and structure.

I really don't understand why they couldn't just zip everything up and have you down load that.

I don't really think it helped...at least me.  I am assuming the "thank you" was being polite.

Again, I'll point out, I am not the only one.  btw, his posts a little condescending.  The comment about putting extra files in was not helpful.

RyanE

No...Its still downloading.  I only downloaded the setup exe first.  I was trying to avoid a 1Gb download again.

RyanE

Downloaded and installed, but now the Market Garden module isn't showing up.  But version says 3.11.  I'll see if anything got triggered by my AV.

Cyrano

Downloaded.

Installed.

Running.

And I asked my beloved to do it since I'm still stuck at work.

Ran CMBN a second time and now MG is there.  I have seen this happen before where modules drop out once after a patch or upgrade and then reappear.

RyanE

My suggestion for anyone upgrading is not to short cut like was suggested in one thread.  Just download the 1Gb into a zip file and run it.  Would have saved me some headaches if I hadn't read an threads on the issues people are having.

I haven't mentioned this is these parts because, frankly, I couldn't remember what, if anything, have been said publicly one the subject. Expect to hear the details about this soon but what we've been seeing in the CMRT patch, Vehicle Pack and today's 3.11 patch is a movement to a new system that is designed to streamline and, hopefully, eliminate some of the things people here have issues with. Especially concerning installation, patching upgrading etc.....

Here is a brief thing that Martin said about it:

Mightily strange procedure for a little hotfix pach I must say, he he."

Get used to it, all patches (and full version installs, too) will be like this. This is part of the all-in-one installers we're switching to. This has many advantages, which I'll describe in a lot of detail in the near future when we update all of the existing product bundles. Users who purchased the Vehicle Pack as a mail option already saw a glance of it, because they have the entire game package on one disc already. Download customers who purchased 3.0 and the Pack will get the same benefit (soon).

It may be a little confusing now, but down the road, it will make reinstallations, upgrades, and all that MUCH easier.
