Those old midi sounds really bring me back.  I remember the first time I played Aces of the Deep.  I had never seen such realism, the way the uboat bobbed in the ocean.  I even sent off by mail for the expansion pack, but never got it.

It was awesome!.. I can remember playing in my bedroom while the wife slept (probably how Gus does it now, since he won't go on Teamspeak ;-) )

But I put MANY hours into Aces of the Deep!

There were not a lot of sims that let you fly torpedo bombers. IIRC, AotP was one of the few.

I dig the old school manual binding rings  :)

A-10 Warthog was my Amiga flying fetish. And Red Storm Rising my sub addiction.

It runs just fine on DOSBox, FYI.

I used to hate sub sims but that was the only one (besides GATO on the old Apple IIc) that I liked playing on a PC.

I had an Amiga 500 with a memory upgrade to make it the equivalent of the Amiga 1000 :)

I loved Silent Service on the C 64.

And I loved those 3.5" floppies...man I can smell.them still...in my mind.
My hands down favorite sim of that era was Gunship on the C 64...I must have played 1000s of hours of that.

+1 on Gunship...that was the one with 3 different helicopters you could fly? The Apache, the Kiowa and the Black Hawk?

I'd be scared to play Red Storm Rising again. I could barely beat it back then. The first game I ever played that made me sweat. And I almost passed it buy-- didn't like the look on the box. Remember those days? At the mercy of box art.

I've ran it on DOSbox a few years ago.  Was a bit troublesome putting the targeting cursor exactly where I wanted it with the keyboard cursor keys.  Used to use a small joystick when I played it in my youth that made it much easier.

I suppose it's just a matter of getting used to tweaking your torpedo enable points with the keyboard.  Lotsa of light tapping?

I was such a rabid RSR & Harpoon addict around that time.. I could nearly always get those big pixelated ship class profiles right on the copy protection check without looking at the manual.  Despite them being so blocky looking.  :)

Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

Oh HELL yeah. Talk about a blast from the past. I forgot about that game. I had it on the shelf at the Electronics Boutique I worked at and I bought it there. :)
