I gave CMANO away. The interface and the lack of at hand info got on my wick. In fairness, they've improved it somewhat.

Distant Worlds - there's a LOT of game there - but I was lost. I didn't feel at ease with having everything automated and I couldn't find a happy middle ground...I gave up and I sold it for charity - with all the DLC - someone got a bargain that day

Total War Attila...I didn't know was out.

Elite:Dangerous - by far (in your list and imo) the best game of 2014 for me. Hands down the winner.

Thanks for the heads up on FPC Red Storm I do have that one and it was one of my favorites this year and I  really like the updates and new look maps.

I do like operational games and Command Ops is one of my favorite so I am intrigued by CMANO but I dont know if I would love it?  The subject matter is interesting but not what I am most drawn too.
Distant Universe I dont have a good 4X space game and I do like those a lot but I have sort of drifted away from Civ etc so would the same happen to me with this game.
Elite I like the look a RL friend is going all in and playing this so I would have someone to game with
TW Rome I have played as the Iceni and taken over the world but while I like it I just dont seem to stick with it as well (I really played the heck out of TW Medieval) so I was hopping Atilla would scratch the itch. 

I think I will save the money try and get a X52 Pro (I want a twisty stick and a good one) when it goes on sale somewhere (just missed the NewEgg sale at $30 off) and jump into Elite sometime in 2015.  So that means no gaming presents under the tree but I think it where my heart lies for gaming.  Also I still want to get CO2 and CM BlackSea so I do have to keep some gaming bandwidth open for those when they finally arrive.

Because DWU features some very decent free mods for each of those properties.

So far as I've heard, CMANO and Red Storm do not.

Sorry I didnt clarify what I meant.  I was trying to illustrate that CMANO like CO requires a steep learning curve, a large time commitment to understand the nuances, lots of gameplay to grasp the mechanics and heavy perusal of the boards and AAR's to learn how to win at it.  This is far different from the other games listed which are of a different scope.

I ended up with a Woolley pulley a bacon press and a new bottle of scotch (bunnachban 25 rare reserve). But no war games. My plan is to find an x52 pro on sale and get elite. I need to have a veneer of a sale to convince the wife that this is a bargain!

So I hope to be on Elite before the year ends

Couldnt find any post holiday deals the Joystick I wanted fro Elite and I just couldnt bear the thought of not getting a game on sale so I broke down and bought CMANO.

(Plus this guarantees that the Gods of Wargaming will punish me by starting an amazing firesale on X52 pro joysticks thus putting me in an even worse quandary of whether I can get away with buying one and ELITE as well :>)

Is the X52 still being manufactured?  Or are they still making those along with their newer one that was supposed to replace it?

Its still available on the Saitek site but the way I read it they are switching to the X55 but the price (list) between the two is the same.

The X52 Pro was on sale at Newegg for about $130 and I was thinking it would come down more after Christmas..Instead it is up now over $200.

I cannot get over the price increases in good scotch int he last two years.  Some of my favorite bottles have gone up 300 or 400% (that is not a typo).

I guess it comes down to supply and demand.  I wish that 20+ years ago someone would have told all those distilleries that the damn hipsters and Chinese were going to increase demand by over 50%.  Would have saved me from having a heart attack on the prices when I try and go back and buy a bottle of the good stuff after a year or two.  I guess whisky booms and bust on a fairly predictable 20 year cycle so I will have to ride this one out for a few years.
