New CM:BN master installers!
Combat Mission Battle for Normandy - News
Saturday, 20 December 2014

As previously rumored, we have now updated all CM:BN packages available for purchase to Game Engine Version 3.0, meaning that all of the packages available in the www.battlefront.com/store now are fully up to date v3.11. This also marks the end of life of CM:BN v2.x, which has now been discontinued.

As part of this update, we have also implemented our new master installer system for CM:BN. Here are some of the highlights:

1- every full version download will always be up to date from now on and always include the latest updates. No need to patch after purchase. And if you need to re-install at some later point, simply re-download your purchase and you will always have the latest version without the need to apply individual patches.

2- every full version download including a base game purchase, or the 3.0 Upgrade, now contains the full master installer for the entire family including all modules and packs. This means if you purchase just the base game, and later decide to purchase a module, you will not have to download anything at all! All you'll need is the license key from your purchase to unlock the module content which you'll already have!

3- we implemented this system retroactively for all 3.0 Engine Upgrade purchases! Your store download for that purchase now points to a full master installer, including all of the content for Normandy, updated to v3.11. If you ever need to reinstall, that's the only thing you need. And, as per 1- above, this download will always remain up to date in the future.

4- future patches or modules or packs not containing a base game purchase will come with smaller installers with more or less just the content you'll need, to avoid excessive downloads. So if you're up to date already except for the latest release, you won't have to re-download the whole master again.

5- this system will enable us to, in the future, allow h2h play between players who do not own the same content. In other words, you'll be able to play against someone with Commonwealth Forces, even if you haven't purchased that module. You won't, of course, be able to use content in solo play if you haven't purchased it yourself. Note that this is planned for future releases, not a new feature available now!

6- this system will make reinstalls much easier, as well as relicensing on a new PC, and will reduce the risk for installation errors. Moreover, this new system is not using individual module.exe files any more, making it much less prone to anti-virus software false positives.

7- Older purchases of CM:BN - 1.x and 2.x - have not been updated and remain accessible to those who purchased them. We strongly recommend these users to purchase the 3.0 Upgrade, however, which will replace their game with a 3.0 engine and the simple one-stop full master installer.

8- if you purchase a Mail Delivery (Download & Mail or Mail only), you will automatically receive a disc with the latest version available at the time of shipping. If, in the future, you would like to receive an updated disc, you will be able to request one by submitting a ticket at battlefront.mojohelpdesk.com. You will need to pay $5 plus the usual S&H.

Combat Mission: Fortress Italy and Combat Mission: Red Thunder will be updated to this new system next year. Combat Mission: Black Sea will already be available using this same system.

Happy Holidays!

On the surface, this sounds very good...always loved all-in-one installers to remove questions on what needs to be installed.....

but #4 confuses me a bit...how is this different then patches today...don't patches today already only contain the additional changes/contents in a smaller installer?

4- future patches or modules or packs not containing a base game purchase will come with smaller installers with more or less just the content you'll need, to avoid excessive downloads. So if you're up to date already except for the latest release, you won't have to re-download the whole master again.

That isn't much different from what is currently done. The convoluted installation instructions didn't affect the people that added as things came out. The.....frustrations...that people have don't seem to come from adding to an existing fully installed version of game but from reinstalling or purchasing an earlier release. For instance, if you had the base game and Market Garden installed right through 3.0 but had never purchased the Commonwealth module, under the previous method, installing CW reverted the game to 1.10. Which meant you had to reinstall the 1.11 patch, 2.0, Market Garden, 2.12 patch and 3.0. Now all you have to do is use your CW key to activate/unlock it. No additional downloading or installing is needed. For people who have purchased everything and updated as new patches were released those things were never really an issue.....unless you needed to do a full reinstall...which is now a 1 step process.

Elvis -- all good news.  One question though -- will Fortress Italy / Gustav Line be getting the latest patch that BN and RT received?

Bison

Well maybe I'll revisit my CM library.  Frankly all of the installs, upgrades, engine variations gave me a head ache and made me not want to deal with playing the games.

JudgeDredd

How do you know what version of what game you have?

I have
CM:SF (says 1.32)
   CM:SF Marines
   CM:SF British Forces
   CM:SF NATO

CM:BN (says 2.12)
   CM:BN Market Garden

CM:FI (says v1.20)

CM:Red Thunder (says v1.03)

Your CMFI is version 3.0, but shows as v1.20 as does mine.

It appears your CMBN is not at version 3 yet as it changes to v2.20 if you have the v3 upgrade installed. Once you install v3 for CMBN and then the 3.11 patch, then CMBN shows as v3.11.

Your CMSF and CMRT are up to date.

It was confusing installing the 3.0 updates for CMBN and CMFI and not have the version number change to v3.

^ I have no idea why they would think it's logical not to have the version number include the engine designation  :uglystupid2:

As wondered many with you, lol!
It has been a rant on here and on their boards. Luckily they have changed it, at least partly. :)

The only one with the goofy designation is CMFI. And that will change.

Sandman, everything will be on this new system.

Sir Slash

Just upgraded CMRT to 1.03 and now I have dead horses lying in the fields. Well one anyway. Is this new? Or am I late to the party? I haven't seen this before. Also there are now little dog houses around some buildings,  no dogs, but nice. Also despite what the Battlefront post says, my save games won't load. Anybody else have this problem?

Save games won't load because they get stuck at 26%?

I had the "26% bug" big time, but 1.03 solved it for me.  BF keeps making a distinction between games you save at the beginning of a new order phase (assuming you play WEGO), and games you save at the end of a phase, when you can replay the action. Seems if your save falls into this latter category, it's a corrupt save you can't do anything about.  Possibly that's what's causing you the problem -- ?

Sir Slash

Exactly what's happening-- the load sticks at 26%. I almost never save in the replay phase, only by error. The game says 1.03. Maybe it didn't install properly. I'll try it again.

Might want to make sure you temporarily remove any mods ("Z" folder) if you do a reinstall.
