To be fair, I think any of the prequel movies could have been a thousand times better, if they had actors worthy of the craft.

I disagree.  I think the biggest problem with the prequels is that everyone knew how they were going to end.  There wasn't much guess work.  Heck, go back and compare the six movies.  The story telling in all six was about the same.  The only thing that set the original one up was its great effects, uniqueness, and the space battles.

This thread may be nerdier than the Star Trek thread.

That was kinda the point I made. If the actors had been better, they would have conveyed a much more interesting story, even though the people know how it's going to end.

Trying to put tension into a prequel that everyone has seen and knows is a pointless endeavour. What's not pointless is (a) having engaging dialogue, which none of the prequels had (though as I said, MacGregor did do a commendable job at times, especially in III, at least IMO); and (b) having engaging actors that give you some emotional buy-in. Even if they only had (b), that would have made it much more enjoyable. For me, anyway.

I don't think that any cast could have made that awful plot, and that horrific dialogue, work. They were doomed from the beginning. Hayden Christensen is one of the worst 'actors' that I've ever seen, but nobody could have made those scenes work.

I haven't read anything that has come before.  But I'm honestly surprised I haven't participated in this thread.  Especially considering that my avatar is an artist friend of ours deception of my wife and I.

I'm sure it's because I've had The Force Awakens trailer on repeat for the better part of the last month, watching it Clockwork Orange Alex DeLarge style.
