So far I've only seen two races.  Space bugs and humans.  I've seen a bit of variety in ship types for the humans but only one type of space bug so far.  The humans seem to offer up a bit more of a challenge in that they'll try to circle around and hammer away at your weak points.  The bugs just seem to charge and die easily but there are a lot of them.

After every few missions, they'll throw in a new weapon system or tactical element so it doesn't feel too samey at this point.  I'm still in the process of getting comfortable with the capabilities of the different ship types under my command as I often find my ships aren't able to turn as tight as I'd thought they could.

No settings for different turn time lengths but you can go back and watch replays of the previous turn and slow down the playback speed.
