She was lucky that she could even talk to a representative, to tell them to fuck off and stop calling.

I've tried that with the occasional "robo-caller" companies.  The last two times, the "rep" hung up as soon as he realized I was telling him not to call that number again.

If I don't recognize a number, I don't answer it.

When I look it up later, if it's not a legit number...BLOCKED. Buh-bye.

Is this anything like, "Hello, my name is Rachael and I'm calling for Cardholders Services...."? I'd like to sue someone for that annoying recorded message--it phoned me countless times.  :knuppel2:
Regardless of how good a PC game may be it will always have its detractors and no matter how bad a PC game may be it will always have its fans.

Yep!  That's one of those that hung up on me when I finally got through to a person to tell them to never call again.  Phone number shows up as 'private' sometimes IIRC.

Probably some phishing scam.

Mom and I answer all the phones at the shop, and we've kept a running joke-account over the years in how "Rachel" has altered her message occasionally to avoid lawsuits on one hand and to hop on current financial political trends on the other hand. ;)

If you have the credit card, then you can legally get the calls.

I've read the law and the underlying regulations.  I've also testified on this in a federal court case.

The reason the woman got >$200k was she copied the recording, copied that she asked them repeatedly to stop, and she was not a client of the company making the calls.  The court hammered the opponents as hard as the regulations allow - which is a good thing.

Seeing as how "Rachel at Cardholder Services" never even identifies which card she's talking about (because she isn't with a credit card at all, she's just very carefully pretending to be), it isn't having the credit card which makes it legal I expect. We are absolutely not a client of the company making the calls, and trying to get them to put us on their no-call list is pointless. (It can be done by secondary means, but they reset the list every month and change the phone numbers they're calling from, so they get around those means pretty easy eventually.)

Still, sounds like you have an interesting legal story there! -- I'd be curious what the law and regulations say, and what you testified.  O0

I failed to mention that I am on the "No Call List."

Also, the Federal Trade Commission finally caught up with Rachael back in January.  :)

I do the same. If you're not on my contact list, leave a message. I also have a different ringtone for folks on my contact list vs. all other calls. Lastly, about half the time my phone is set to Do Not Disturb, meaning if you're not on my contact list AND listed as a favorite, my phone won't even ring. Get off my lawn!!!    >:D

Kids got me an Iphone 6 for my birthday. Much of it is wasted on me (something called Siri???) and by the time I figure it all out, it will be time for an upgrade to the 8  O0 

BTW, my "not on my contact list" ringtone is the theme to The Walking Dead. Nothing like hearing that start playing when you're in line at the store   ::)

Thanks, Steelgrave. I'm not big on cell phones and rarely use one. But as far as I know my current cell phone has none of the options you mentioned.

I'd switch to the X-Files theme.  It'll be hot again soon.
