Easy problem to solve like me....buy both:)

At the moment, Eastside is probably the more complete/stable game but it is unknown how much the developer will evolve the game over time.  Although you can get mods for real players by default it comes with fictional.  User interface is a little dated and doesn't fully support all screen resolutions.  Although fhm may not match its capabilities right now (still has a lot of good stuff) I believe over the long run like ootp baseball it will become the dominate hockey game.

If I had to buy one with all the factors , I would likely invest in fhm and a year ago I wouldn't have said that.
But then there's Blood Bowl 2...which I am starting to enjoy (the original that is)!

I've been waiting for them to fix the bugs and make some UI tweaks before buying BB2.

After the initial bug hunting hurricane has passed (in a couple months?) and I pick it up, we can do some matches.  Perhaps get in on whatever Grogheads League is running at the time, or start one.   :)

I've just cleaned my hard drive! I'm looking at a lovely, empty desktop. The games I've reinstalled are the ones I think I'd be likely to play - and I haven't touched one since I rebuilt the PC. I've been watching old James Bond films and clueing up on the rules for B-17 Queen of the Skies board game.

I've been watching old James Bond films and clueing up on the rules for B-17 Queen of the Skies board game.

I took the tables from QoTS, and determined how many fighters were encountered, on average, in each zone..and then determined how many shots were fired, and the results.

This took several weeks of painstaking analysis and number crunching. The end result was my B-17 would move into an area, and I would roll percentage dice to determine how many damage rolls I would make for that area. Then, one chart was consulted, with another dice set rolled. For this one, it was three ten-sided dice, providing 1000 possible outcomes.

I then created my own scoresheet, with each mission on one sheet, with 24 bombers. I could run a mission with 24 bombers in about two hours..tracking all damage, injuries, and kills.

I believe I was up over 10k missions when the computer age hit...   :)

IMO PC NHL 04 modded is tough to beat.

EHM or FHM is intriguing but I still don't see something I need to spend money on given the reviews of the newer games and mods from 04.

Never heard of NHL 2004 being rebuilt by modders....will have to check that out.  Likely won't still have the management capabilities as FHM and EHM, but I do enjoy playing a game of hockey now and then.  Thanks.

Anyone take the plunge on this one?  Any comparisons with EHM?

Grim.Reaper

Yes...still scratching the surface but seems like very good improvement over last years version.  They still need to iron out some issues but they seem committed to fixing along the way, already two patch releases.  I haven't played ehm recently but I have a feeling fhm has a bigger future than ehm, but may take a couple of versions. No regrets in buying yet.

I'm still (yeah - STILL) interested in a hockey management game and I was looking again over the weekend. So there's FHM and EHM. I like OOTP and their interfaces - so that led me to go looking at their site.

Then I noticed the (imo) bad presentation of the game playing out on the ice...a complete contrast to EHM where you have the FM type display.

So - what to do....  :-[

I think it's got to be EHM until FHM sort the game presentation out a bit.  O0

I'm playing the EHM version as we speak, and with the 2015/16 roster update, it's running smooth as silk so far.  I just prefer the FM style of interface over the OOTP interface.  If OOTP had an FM interface I probably wouldn't need any other sports game.

I'm a bit gutted with the fixed resolution. I know you can have full screen, but it looks god awful.

But for a tenner - it looks like a deep game.

I don't know about players and teams - I know nothing about Hockey - so I wanted to ask if the rosters are already in my game or do I download them from somewhere

If you need the in-game experience of seeing the action unfold on the ice, EHM is your only option for the foreseeable future.  I don't believe FHM has any plans to include that type of feature right now.  EHM has fake players but you can download a real life roster file by the community.  FHM includes both fictional and real players within the game.  If you are unsure if you like hockey and want to try something, I suggest trying EHM right now because the cost is very cheap.  If you end up liking hockey, then I would suggest getting FHM at some point since I do believe over time it likely will be the better game after a few versions.
