The Mrs gets her own copy this afternoon when I get home from work.   O0

Damn it. Just as this comes out, Steam decides to be wonky again and won't let me purchase  :'(

Do you fly in this game with a mouse or a joystick ?

My joystick is in storage and is likely to remain there for quite some time.

I pulled the trigger on Rise of Flight earlier this year because it could be flown with a mouse (and I really miss having Track IR, joystick, and rudder pedals).

You can play m&k, but game seems optimized for xbox type game controller.

Capn Darwin

You can play mouse/keyboard and you can remap the keys to whatever works for you. I've used a controller because I have one and like a flight sim it does a better job of having all the buttons and sticks right in hand. Folks have done just fine either way. It's all in how you want to play it.

Anyone else getting an "Elite:Dangerous Lite" vibe from Reb. Galaxy?  I mean that as a positive, actually. Have only put 40 minutes in so far but I'm impressed with the fluid gameplay / interface.

Sigh.... I bought in. Seems cool as a pick and blast stuff for a while type game. Only got about an hour in so far.... haven't died yet so there's that.  :D

Vance, I'm about 40 hours in and having a good time with it. Very Sid's Pirates like.

Just finished reading the review on the mythical front page....download just finished!
PanzersEast: Have to think to myself.... will I play the first one by the Winter Sale?  Probably not, then I should remove Dragonfall
PanzersEast: but that is thinking too logically.... and Steam Sales are about ignoring Logic

Yeah. I'm in. I really, really, really, really, really need another game.

I can watch the title screen battles for way too long.  :smitten: :smitten:

So for those who've played it by now, how's the AI, and does the game do a good job of giving you a sense of place ?  I remember one Space game that gave you no sense of place at all because you never got out of the spaceship, and at the other end of the spectrum there were games in the 'nineties where you could walk around planteside and soak up some scenery (as opposed to the inevitable hangar/bar/mission booth).

The other thing that I wonder about is how convincing the solar systems are.  Are the asteroid belts a clump of loose rocks in space, or are they a belt around the planets ? And are the planets always in the same place, or do they actually move?  And can you use a planet or moon as a tactical object in a space battle (hide behind it or use its gravity field for a slingshot effect when you're maneuvering in sub-light speed) ?

And apart from the music, is space silent (it should be, there's no air) ?

Cap, that was a great (p)review you and the Mrs. wrote. Enjoyed it very much. Rebel Galaxy is now in my Steam cart awaiting my credit card :)

I've always thought it a waste of time, implementing features for getting out of your vessel and walking around space stations, planets, etc in games based upon spaceship combat, exploration, etc.  They were always done poorly and ended up being just a useless annoyance (hence waste of development time).

This is something I'd like to see. O0

Well.. there's atmosphere inside your own ship so there should be sounds related to it, if that's where you are located.  :D
